Anybody know why Derby Academy team wore 1-11 in the cup game today rather than squad numbers?

With the interim manager, Wayne Rooney, and his entire first-team squad already isolating at home due to a Covid-19 outbreak at the club, further positive tests leading up to kick-off meant the development coach, Pat Lyons, had to field a side without a minute of first-team experience. Those who started wore 1 to 11 on their shirts because none of them owned a first-team squad number.

Ok thanks. I thought all players had numbers as even some of our youngsters have numbers in the 70s 80s and 90s

Those around the first team squad do, even if they have been picked, but not these obv.....

Soccerbase really is terrible isn't it, I mean, does someone not notice there's already a number 2,3,4 etc etc. It's always surprised me that there isn't a football version of Cricinfo, a detailed, complete and accurate site for stats.
