Could anyone recommend a dog training class ( assuming they are still running ! ) or a dog trainer please for a 4 month puppy ? In the Hove area.

My wife used to do it. Basically reward good behaviour pocketful of treats and totally ignore any bad behaviour. They are dogs not humans.

If you can't find a trainer or class at the moment then the Talking Dogs podcast is very good and might help. It's Graeme Hall that does Dogs behaving very badly.

Also there are some very good tutorials on YouTube to help with the basics.

You may struggle, most of the classes have big backlogs now because of being unable to run classes in November & January.

Some are doing 1-2-1 in open spaces as that is OK under the rules (apparently....) while some are going over Zoom.

We've ended up with someone Chichester way now because of this who is comfortable still doing private training on a farm space they have.

This book - which a lot of trainers base their training on, is very good if you do not have it already https://www.amazon.co.uk/Peasy-Pupp...&keywords=dog+training&qid=1610017862&sr=8-10

I used to train my friends dog a lot when he had a job and I didnt. Long walks and lots of philosophical talk. Pretty much feral now but you can tell it knows a lot of stuff.

You've just got to be consistent.

Some tips to get you by:-

- Keep treats to hand, always reward positive behaviour.
- Tone of voice light and fluffy while rewarding, cross when telling off.
- Toy box, to help with chewing keep all toys in his own box.
When chewing something "agg agg, no" very cross.
Then take puppy to box put one of it's toys in it's mouth "ahhh good boy".
- Biting.
Instantly clamp mouth shut, "agg agg no"
Keep mouth clamped tight.
Maintain eye contact all the time.
Wait for a whimper then release - quickly find something positive to do so as to "ahhh good boy"
- Food
Doggo always eats last, never eats from the table, never eats from your plate.
If he's getting scraps put them in his bowl after you've finished eating.
- Never elevate doggo.
They stay on the floor, they don't sit with you, obviously you can sit with them, they certainly don't sit on you or above you, across the top of the sofa etc.

Basically for those last 3 you have to remember doggo is a pack animal and in the absence of a 'Pack Leader' it will take on those duties itself.
With that in mind never lose a 'tug of war' game.

You have to be pack leader and everyone is happy.

Dog training? Sproodles?

People have gone weird.

Throw a cup of water in its face when it pisses you off. Job done.

Why did the Dalmatian hide?

He didn’t want to be spotted.

Excellent advice, looking forward to lesson 2 on walking the dog, on/off lead, road crossing, playing fetch. And the highlight of the series exercising the dog from a bicycle.
