I have no issues with taking long term punts on young talent. It’s smart, and you can see this guy fitting neatly into our development program being loaned out through the leagues.

But our recruitment don’t do enough for now. It’s really hard to overlook this whilst we continue to be toothless up front. Welbs is a great pro but has never been prolific.

GP’s job is potentially on the line and I hope recruitment are trying to help him.

Something like £1m for a player of his age seems an absolute no brainer given the potential sell on value, not to mention if he does turn out to be the next Vardy.

Very much worth a punt. Could be loaned back till end of the season and I assume offer them someone else on loan at a position they need to sweeten the deal further.

Some great players started in non/power leagues Vardy, Wright etc. Sing him up.

Unfortunately his recent exploits at Crawley look likely to be a statistical outlier. Looking at his prior goal scoring record he is not good enough.

Vardy by contrast was always scoring ridiculous numbers at every level he played at.

When the future arrives we will probably be in the Championship or lower.

We need to start signing players for NOW.

You do know we can do both, right ?

Or should we go down the Harry Redknapp / Portsmouth school of thinking of close the academy and invest in ‘proven’ first team PL squad to go all out for European football...

If we are looking for a Vardy type signing then Boulaye Dia is the one.

According to Ligue 1's own promotional blurb,

Dia once quit football to work as an electrician when his father took ill, and only signed his first contract with fourth-tier Jura Sud Foot in 2017 at the age of 21.

Whether he plays through the middle or on the right-hand side of the attack, Dia loves playing on the shoulder of his marker, using his turn of pace to burst through on goal. He is utterly direct regardless of his starting position and is confident finishing with either foot once he gets one-on-one with an opposition goalkeeper.

Of course l know that we can do both, and of course l'm not advocating closing the academy! The problem is that we so rarely seem to sign a player of any true pedigree, someone who is ready to be thrown into first team action immediately, and our Premier League future is in doubt.

Such a shame we didn’t just sign him in the summer, probably well out of the budget range now with Arsenal, West Ham and Everton sniffing around.
