A bacon brie and cranberry ciabatta lightly toasted is a thing of beauty, however, desert island scenario, can only take one type of cheese, got to be a good thoroughly matured cheddar hasn't it?

Really depends on the standard of cheese. From Sainsbury's directly, definitely Brie. Give me a Black Bomber over pretty much any other cheese though. That's a special Cheddar.

Many supermarkets try to trick people into buying Cathedral city I think by putting it everywhere in special offer although many smaller mid market brands of Cheddar taste far nicer . Maybe they earn more money from that make.
It's clearly not the correct answer to the question "would you prefer Cheddar or Brie?"
I agree with [MENTION=424]Papak[/MENTION]. Cheddar is the cheese I have in the fridge at all times. A good cheddar is great on its own, but it is also great for melting on toast, grating, adding to food etc. I tend to only buy Brie for special occasions, usually to have on crackers at Christmas.

Clue is in the name - has to be Caerphilly, if none available Wensleydale is a reasonable substitute followed by Cheshire. Bugger had Gammon Egg and Chips earlier and this is making me hungry again!
