The new roof was 'opened' a few games into the 1984/85 season. Against Barnsley if I remember correct.

It had a menace and a darkness loved standing top step but two with a gap then the the police on the back step. Millwall, Cardiff and pompey stand out

The most curious thing..
I always thought the Goldstone was a bit dinghy in daylight.
It looked much better at night under floodlights when the colours stood put more.

I thought it was quite colourful but looked nothing like a small inflatable boat.

Giant floodlight pylons you could see from miles away as you approached the ground for an evening game. Magical as a kid seeing that. A few 33,000 gates eg CP and Derby. Great times.

Being in the North Stand at the time when Peter Ward was playing in the Taylor/Mullery era is still my best Goldstone memory. That surge down the terrace after we scored and discovering you were some distance away from where you started. Fantastic memories

I'm surprised it stayed until that long, I was always getting covered in rust in the late 60's.... if you ever witnessed John Templeman and others in the team take a shot at goal you'll understand why.
