[Technology] Laptop Buying Advice

My 10 year has asked for a laptop for Christmas. Looking at a budget of about £300. I have been tasked by my wife to point him in the direction of a decent one... I know nothing about the latest tech or even if it is worth buying him one at this price, so any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated.

Imagine he will initially use for browsing, and the odd MS Office program as he gets towards secondary school.

Cheers in advance for any pointers!

thanks yeah from what I can see Chromebook's are good value. But what are the differences between that and a standard windows PC? Is it simply the operating system?

Yes the apps are from google play, basically android. The benefit of this are they are generally easy to use and not huge programs. You can download the android Microsoft App for Office 365 which I understand works well, caveat here, I haven’t used one but my friend love the simplicity of his. Also it’s quick and the price.

Of course office is available online anyway.
