Their passing was poor in the first half, and we began to dominate but, once again, didn't capitalise on some decent openings. Second half we were just very poor. Insipid, passing radar way off, positionally subject, passive and we ended up clinging on for a point, making one of the PL's weaker teams look much better than they are. Let's hope this was just a bad day at the office although, that said, there are worrying signs -- most particularly, over-playing and not finishing teams off when on top.

Lallana MOTM. White and Burn other positives.

Maupay far too isolated. Trossard is not as effective in such an advanced role. Potter definitely got it wrong today

Trossard is no good as support to the striker. The substitutions were poor today.

Biggest concern is that lamptey has caught the bug now. Even he was stopping and passing back. He’s lost his ambition which is probably down to the team atmosphere. Potter needs to change this or he’ll be changed before long.

This. Not sure if its orders or just him. It does seem the whole squad has lost confidence in itself and I am concerned that GP is not sure how to motivate them out of it. He looked a bit desparate tonight which is what really worries me. The players seemed to have no appetite for the game. I have a bad case of the jitters tonight but hope tp get over it.

Ryan 5 - question .... why did he commit before the shot was taken?
Lamptey 7
Veltman 5
Webster 5 - good first half, rabbit in the headlights last 30.
Burn 5 - same as Webster
March 6
Bissouma 5 - lazily gave possession away allowing counters.
White 5 - same as Webster.
Lallana 8 - MOTM, creative, always forward thinking, great retention and use of the ball.
Trossard 4 - lacked composure throughout, not his evening.
Maupay 4 - if only.

Subs:
Gross 2 - his days influencing events seem rare to say the least.
Mac Allister 4
Alzate 4

Potter 2 - keep your better performing players on the pitch to see out a narrow win. Playing the long game was a huge error.

spot on about Ryan. WA was right on the radio, poor keeping, should've saved it.

Just watched the sky replay and the slow mo right at the end (repeat of Grants goal) he turns inside, sticks his boot through it and just leathers it and it goes straight, exactly to where Ryan was standing, except Ryan dives early and the wrong way, leaving a flailing arm where he had just been standing.

If Ryan had just stood still, it wouldve been straight down his throat.

I’m really not sure which of tonight’s starters deserve to play in the next game?

Lallana would be one .

But if you are Connolly, Welbeck, Alzate, Molumby, Mac Allister or even Bernardo - you’re going to fancy your chances after tonight’s weak 2nd half.

Hopefully Potter will stop filling the team with centre backs and central midfielders and put a more attacking line-up out.

Ryan is as agile as ever but something Is fundamentally wrong with His technique.
He can’t stop shots .
Cue gif of the soton save from his fan club....

Ryan - 7 - Didn't have much to do first half, pulled off a very decent save in the second, static when they hit the post though. Distribution was generally good and don't think he could have done much with the goal.
Lamptey - 7 - Our best attacking outlet of the game aside from Lallana only player who can say they done well.
Webster - 5 - First half decent, second half not so decent, decision making was far from perfect.
Veltman - 6 - Best defender.
Burn - 5 - Don't think he suits the back 3 personally, bit of a weak link last night.
March - 6 - The crossing and decision making let him down, otherwise pretty standard performance.
White - 7 - Good performance, faded though.
Lallana - 8 - By far the best player on the pitch, game was gone when he came off. Wish he would shoot more though.
Bissouma - 5 - Let the team down in midfield was well off the pace.
Trossard - 6 - Good first half, bad second half.
Maupay - 4 - Wasteful. Should be scoring some of these chances.

Ryan - 6- No chance with the goal, not much to do otherwise
Lamptey - 6 - Mixed bag, did well for the goal but lost his way 2nd half.
Webster - 5 - Lost positional sense and control of those around him as the 2nd half wore on, Airy fairy waft at cross for equalizer didn't help
Veltman - 6 - Decent enough full debut in PL
Burn - 6. - Played quite well but faded 2nd half
March - 6 Usual mix of good and frustrating, has some real ability but so often makes the wrong choice with his final pass.
White - 6 - Positionally poor, made some decent recovery tackles but allowed Perriera to run the game 2nd half,,
Lallana - 7 Good for an hour but is that all he can play? Mystified as to why he was substituted when he was
Bissouma - 5 - Poor, old habit of getting wrong side of the ball resurfaced.
Trossard - 5 - Not a striker. Not sure generally about him tbh. Some great games but he drifts in and out of games. May as well have stayed in the changing room 2nd half. Amazed he wasn't first sub.
Maupay - 4 - Missed two sitters again. Looks woefully off form but needs more help too.

Potter - 4 Thought he made more mistakes in game management here than in all his other games this season combined. Game desperately needed a striker introducing at the hour mark as we could not retain possession his sub of Lallana made things worse and compounded that mistake with subsequent substitutions

players 5 ish . . . Lallana aside who played well.

Potter 0

I don't know what he was thinking, first half was ok, but he must have had mushroom tea at haftime, it just defied all logic.

ref was poor as well, immobile at best

Ryan - 5 should have saved the goal but made a good save before that.
Webster - 5 Gave the ball away too often.
Veltman - 7 Very steady some good passes.
Burn - 5 Got out of position for their goal and how does he not score from corners given his height?

Lamptey - 6 Seemed to lack his normal flair in 2nd half but was not given much support defensively.
White - 6 Some good defensive work and some good moves forward but would prefer him in defence.
Bissouma - 6 Not up to his usual standard but still good.
March - 5 Poor night. Weak shot and some poor crosses.

Lallana - 8 It's a pity he can't last the full match (Yet?)

Maupay - 5 Missed a couple of chances. Great worker and fitness.
Trossard - 5 Drifted in and out. Some brilliant touches but then goes quiet.

Gross - 5 One good tackle is all I recall of his contribution :(
Mac Allister - 6 He is not a wing back.
Alzate - 6 Should have replaced Gross as sub for Lallana.

Potter 4 Got it badly wrong 2nd half and his post match comments are getting tedious.
Given all the times we should "have learned from this and moved on" we should be all knowing now!
