Six Nations recently adopted the league bonus points system, one for running in four tries, one for a losing team that scores within 7 points of the winner. Works well and makes games more meaningful (this year's Six Nations being an example).

Could this ever be adapted to football and how would it work ?

Bonus point for scoring more than three. 5-4 = 4 points and 2 points; 4-4 = 2 each.

Oh, and for any team beating Palace and Leeds. And another if the team mascot dives theatrically in front of the SEGW; 2 bonus points if the starting 11 do so just before KO.

Sussex, by the sea
If we got a point for 20+ shots on goal in a game we'd be mid table

****ing ludicrous idea

Assuming you are trying to encourage attacking play, 4 points for a win if you win by 2 goals, 3 points for a win plus 1 point for losing team if they scored but lost by one goal, score draw 2 points each, goalless draw 1 point each.

Not bonus points but following rule changes

Any goal scored from a shot outside the penalty box will be worth 2 goals
If from within own half 3 goals will be awarded.
If a team commits 5 fouls in a half each subsequent foul they commit a penalty will be awarded regardless of where the foul occurs.
No more then 6 players of the defending team are permitted in their own penalty area at any time. A penalty will be awarded against the defending team each time this rule is broken.
A player is only offside if at least one metre beyond the last defender.
There will be 2 TV commercial time outs per half
Goal music is compulsory.

Should please the American owners.

On a serious note there is no need to amend the points system.
