West is BEST
Of recent years I’d say the first Paranormal activity is genuinely scary. Not many films are actually scary but that got me.

I've heard most Japanese horror is pretty f*cked up. The Ring is a remake of a Japanese original.

No such thing as a scary horror film.

Japanese one is called Ringu, much better than the US version. Ringu 0 is quite unnerving in places.
Ju-On (the grudge) is pretty good, again it's better than the US version.

These types of horrors tend to get me more as well, the realism side of it, Dark Skies, The Visit and Mirrors as well as the Final Destination series tend to get me more than your typical slasher or gory movies.

The Fatherland
I find the horror genre a bit naff to be honest. But the film which made me wince the most in the past decade or so was Hard Candy.

The Hand starring Peter Lorre.
Frightened me to death but I was just a young kid at the time.
As an adult, it would have to be The Excorcist.
