There’s no solution here to suit all here. Logical pros and cons to both sides of the argument. It’s a matter of choosing your poison.

Whatever happens we can guarantee the virus will spread regardless. I’m of the view that the poison of keeping grounds closed is more detrimental than the chance of people catching COVID at a ground. If grounds stay closed jobs will be lost. Not just the playing and backroom staff, but also the many secondary businesses that rely on football to be played with fans. What are the government doing to support coach firms? What about the mortgages the drivers have to pay? Just one sector within the footballing world that’s being crippled right now.

Providing the attendees are protected with additional measures to protect the vulnerable, I can’t see how this is any more dangerous than thousands of people leaving pubs and bars in city centres at 10PM every night. Jobs and livelihoods are on the line and the lower leagues lay the foundation for the whole footballing pyramid. What about the mental well-being of the fans and people involved with the clubs? Any closures and mental health will tank, depression will rise and this is a very real threat. COVID is here to stay regardless of fans being socially distanced at a football stadium of not. What a **** situation we are in.

There will only be the usual 5 live matches from the next round of fixtures anyway. Palace is on Sky but no coverage of West Brom or Spurs.

Outdoor is def much safer than indoor no question . I certainly would not consider going to any large indoor event , you are really asking for trouble .

It will all be stopped dead in its tracks soon when we're back to a total lockdown because clearly we let people mingle too soon, and without the proper protection that we were promised by this incompetent government.

What’s the point of going into lockdown for a few months, then to have 3 months of restricted life, only to go into an inevitable subsequent lockdown before the process repeats again? We cannot continue to live our lives this way. COVID’s fatality rate effects very few. The implications of restricted life affects us all. We need to protect the vulnerable but the current regime simply isn’t working for the majority.

But the scientific advice is that its fine as long as social distancing is maintained. It must be because it's fine to go to work, get on a train, go shopping , go to the pub etc. Either it's all safe or it all isn't?

Stop trying to force the governments hand, this is very insensitive and disrespectful for those of us in the highest vulnerability category. The email from the club asking to sign is disgraceful.

Stupid idea that will do nothing of any good. Cases are rocketing, included B&H now on amber alert and probably facing a local lockdown. All it will do is make it look like football is trying to grab money greedily (because nobody outside of the game believes there is any hardship at the top levels, all they see is players being paid stupid sums every week).

Ridiculous action by a selfish group without thinking through the consequences.

Yes, we absolutely need to find solution for lower tier teams, however, "fans at all levels" is not a positive step forward.

Anyone signing this petition, at this time, should be ashamed of themselves.

It’s all safe when taken in isolation ie we could have football grounds open but not pubs or schools but not gyms etc etc. Alternatively we could keep everything closed and ensure no spread. Realistically though the Government will make choices and every individual industry affected will rally its supporters to lobby to be kept open at the expense of something else. Hence the e mail this morning from the club.

Selfish by wanting a clubs to survive in the lower league?

If you can’t do it in a 30k seater stadium you can’t in the non league with smaller grounds and tighter areas.

As above, if you don’t agree with it - don’t sign it - don’t go moaning about people wanting to help save a club.

Yes, I was quite shocked and thought it pretty disrespectful to older fans who are at home fuming about the carefree attitude of many in the population who just don’t get it or can’t be arsed, or don’t care about anyone other than themselves.

Increased transmission of CASES is actually not in places where there are proper procedures in places like pubs and restaurants etc. This is a statistic that's published.

At football it would be very controlled ( and outside )

Can you link to that statistic, as it would be really interesting to see, as I have seen those within the catering industry questioning the figures!
