How about Nile Rodgers from Chic?
Rickie Wilson! I genuinely couldn’t remember his name last night. He’s way more famous in his tv role than his band. I guess the same can be said of Gavin Rossdale. He’s more famous in his solo career which consists of being Gwen Stefani’s now ex-husband and Daisy Low’s father.
Nile Rodgers is a good call.

The question is bigger, though, not better. Several suggestions on this thread after leaving the band have produced rubbish - albeit very commercial rubbish - so therefore 'bigger' than the better stuff they did in their bands.
Yes, I know what the question is thanks, but I thought I would make the point, the same point you have.
Lots of solo electronic artists have been in bands before ranging in stature from Moby to Four Tet to Kelly Lee Owens.
