its never explained how this event would make such a policy affordable, especially with the economy fractured. it would require a massive taxation of high income and wealth, including those supposedly behind everything.

It would require a collapse of the current economic system and the wiping of huge amounts of national debt. You could argue this is a convenient way out of a system that has ultimately been bankrupt since the 2008 crisis. Whether you can see the feasibility or not it is being promoted by very senior economists.

Had to revisit this thread, for a sort of fact check...

Since the day this thread was generated the following changes have occurred to the daily figures for England...

Hospitalisations - 674% increase
Patients on ventilators - 665% increase
Positive cases - 342% increase
Deaths - 1,900% increase

Yes the figures were from a low base rate, particularly the deaths, but the warning signs were there, but some experts decided they wanted their 15 minutes of fame, and dragged the foolish and gullible along with them.

Anyone that still thinks the second wave is a “scam” is clearly either deranged or an ostrich!

First wave never really went away tho eh? Those of a certain mindset just switched to party mode for the summer with the inevitable consequences. Big surprise there then?

Here, there and everywhere
One reason is that October onwards is the flu season, when there is an expected rise in hospitalisations each year. There haven't been the usual number of flu admissions this year.

What we should do is add flu to covid cases, and then look at the yearly comparisons, to see if the overall numbers are the same or rising.

I suppose one upside of the current setup is Flu cases should be way down due to the restrictions in place?
