Always a great occasion and a traditional curtain raiser to the eagerly anticipated new football season, and with the big 6 all seemingly going into the season in rude health, this could be one of the best seasons yet.

A great chance for two of the big six to lay down a marker today and the opportunity to raise money for several excellent causes. Looks on paper to be a fascinating encounter.

Dave in the Ship is doing a special offer on Carlsberg and Cheese and Onion crisps so should be a good socially distanced audience for the big game.

:fishing: stats, a solid 6/10 from Crodo. Generic but points gained for mention of The Ship.

I occasionally used to drink in the ship, in the late 70s.

It was practicing social distancing even back then.

So, I take it, Crodo isn't mad for it when it comes to the Charity Shield? Someone please remind him that we won it once.

Have a bit of respect and all that, crodonilson, eh?.

Really disappointed, frankly, that Crodo missed the tap-in of this being the first ever double-header Community Shield, with both the women's and men's fixtures both being held at Wembley for the first time.

It's OK, El Pres will be along soon to tell us more about double headers.

What a fabulous day, Dave put on a great spread, the game was a competitive spirited affair and Dirty Barry is going home with a rotund holidaymaker. Everything is right with the world.
