Excellent 3 nil win for the Rooks against a strong Folkestone team., who will feel that they might have been worth a point, but for some utterly clinical finishing from the home side.

Tanner (with his right!) in the first half after dancing past a couple. He genuinely is a phenomenal player to watch. After the break Folkestone made most of the running and crafted a number of opportunities, but the Rooks held firm before delivering two sucker punches in injury time. Maloney dispatching a rebounded shot and then the superb Joe Taylor with yet another crafty clipped finish over the keeper.

Minutes applause and the day was in honour of recently departed Rooks fan Cynical Dave Mackay, and the team definitely did him proud.

Dropped points at Worthing... Enfield huffing and puffing... the season is hotting up

Off to Worthing v Seaford tonight in the senior cup tonight, should be a formality, but you never know it the greatest cup competition on the world. Game 64 of the season to be ticked off hopefully get to around 80 by Christmas.

I was at Loxwood tonight to watch Littlehampton annihilate their hosts 13 (Thirteen) - 0 in the RUR Cup. It was a bit silly, to be honest, despite The Marigolds resting a few first choice players. They were absolutely ruthless, with Joe Benn bagging a double hatrick to move on to 41 (I think) for the season.

Lewes were disappointing tonight, and lost 2-1 to Corinthian Casuals. They lost their passing game and CC scored two sucker-punch goals in the second half after the Rooks had led at half time.

Still, a good night on the terraces.

On the train to Worthing to see if Seaford can knock a 5th team from a higher division out of a cup this season . Tough one but its cup football:moo:

See you there

And 8 (eight) goals too, 6 of them for the Rebels :D .

Hopefully you won't be suffering it next season. Used to go to Blundell Park regularly as lived in Louth, lovely old club .

Looking less likely at the minute. After a surprisingly good start to the season, we’ve now lost 5 out of the last 6 games, with only an unconvincing 1-0 win at home to Southend breaking up that sequence. 7 out of our next 8 are against top 10 sides, including the top 2 and 5th placed Halifax twice. It’s sink or swim time.

It’s frighteningly difficult to get out of this league now. It took us 6 years before, but there’s so much money floating around now (relatively speaking of course) and not just from the obvious clubs like Wrexham and Stockport with their excellent backing.

Read an article about this recently and how National League (Conference in old money) is very competitive these days. Was even an argument that instead of league 2 and National league there should be League 2 north and League 2 south as the quality of football is generally good enough for that.

Yep, the Rooks disappointed.

Highlights were the superb Lewis Carey stop in the first half, the absolutely delicious Juicy IPA and my mate falling over on the Philcox and spilling beer all over himself.

Probably a good idea unless it means they all have to go fully professional since one third or so of the National League teams are semi-professional.

I think it’s always been more competitive than a lot of people imagine, hence why there are so many comparatively big ex-league clubs stuck down here, but certainly this season is much tougher than any I can remember from our time down here previously. It’s not like there haven’t been clubs throwing money at it before, Crawley, Fleetwood (who had Vardy at the time) and Forest Green all did in their own way - it’s more a case of how many clubs are throwing money at it right now.

Wrexham and Stockport are minted for different reasons, and both are believed to be paying players close to £10k a week which is nuts at this level. Then you’ve got Chesterfield who are an interesting case; they had an insurance policy in place which protected them in the event of falling gate receipts (intended for relegation / recession purposes originally) which meant that they effectively still got all of their gate money while there were no crowds in stadiums, all the while able to benefit from the various solidarity payments and video match passes etc. They used a good wedge of that cash spending £250k on a striker who’s currently the league’s top scorer with 17 goals already.

Notts County aren’t too hard up either, and had a crowd of over 12,000 last weekend (albeit at reduced ticket prices). On top of that there’s a whole host of less fashionable names who are backed to the hilt; the likes of Boreham Wood, Solihull and Bromley with their plastic pitch. We’ve been getting crowds of between 6k - 7k ourselves, but still probably only just scrape into the top 7 or 8 budget-wise. It’s very, very difficult.

Yeah the article was saying there are players turning down League 1 or 2 clubs to go play at National League clubs as they'll earn more in the National League. Sounds bonkers.

Indeed. I’m sure you’re aware of Wrexham’s model, which is fine really as it’s at least self-sustainable in the short-term, but Stockport’s owner is throwing cash at it too (though he is at least a wealthy supporter of the club, not just some chancer). They recently signed Antoni Sarcevic, who was captain of Bolton at the time - currently 11th in League One. He didn’t make that move for the ambience of Edgeley Park.
