Who can play CM now? Biss (suspended), Molumby (very inexperienced / going on loan), Alzate, Propper... is that it? I don’t count Gross / Lallana / Mac really as they’re more attacking kinds - I mean central box to box midfielders. With Mooy and Stephens gone we may be a bit light.. Altho I may have missed someone obvious out...!?

Out of the 3 I said in wouldn’t count, is Mac the best alternative to playing in the midfield / deeper midfield position...?

I would have thought Lallana for CM, although ideally would be best with someone physical like Yves beside him.

I think Lallana and Alzate could work well together, both keep the ball exceptionally well.

Could March do a job there short term?

Bissouma, Alzate, Pröpper, Molumby as the primary four, with March, Gross, Lallana and Mac ready to step in for the occasional game... I dont think its light. Behind these eight players you have some probably quite capable youngsters, even if Sanders probably leaves on loan.

Mac is showing his class in flashes, his 2 decent performances in the last week against lower league opposition. I don't think we will see the best of him and consistently until the back end of the season or even next season.

Hes still a young lad adapting to different league, country and culture..... Hes not yet a reliable go to, like Biss has become. Need some ready to go experience in there.

nowhere near physical enough. Agree, good ball players, need some Stephens/Biss type muscle in there against Pogba, Fernandes............

I have no idea either!

Good point - Lallana with back up - but he’ll need to be fitter

No - we don’t do square pegs in round holes anymore. Potter has had time to build a squad now.

I really rate Mac and he’s young. But a box to box midfielder he is not for me (lightweight etc). But I do feel a bit more reassured now, so thanks all!

Surely it can come as a surprise as nobody knew Mooy was off to China or Stephens was off to Burnley or that Bissouma would get sent off second game in. I am not constantly concerned about something, just pointing out a fact we've gone from a lot of options to not so many in dm read the post if you don't understand that. Furthermore, I'm not worried, actually excited to see what we do to negotiate the problem.

Thanks for your assumptions though, great input

You are a worrywart. I don't have time to go back all the posts since you joined two months ago to prove it.

Are we sure Molumby's going on loan? I think he provides fantastic in that position.

Only saw some headlines that he was expected to go but did see one saying he may not - Irish press I think matey.

I dont think he is going anywhere, just some random Irish rumour. Potter said today that Molumby was saved yesterday as a precaution for the weekend, so he is likely starting on Saturday and that will probably make him understand that he will get a reasonable amount of games this season.

I can see why Molumby would go out on loan if he was 5th choice in central midfield. That is some way from even the bench.

4th choice, though, and he gets a real opportunity of minutes and a chance to establish himself.

Yes please he is the perfect replacement for Bissouma going to be a hard game for him though.

Correct. Seems Potter’s being fairly transparent about this. Looks like Molumby is playing Man Utd on Saturday.

What an opportunity for the lad. Could be his “Connolly moment”.

Alzate and Molumby vs Pogba, Fernandez, Van De Beek potentially if not Van De Beek it'll be McTomminay or Matic.. gonna be tough to get control of that midfield. Wondering if he'll change formation to negate that maybe drop Connolly for another midfielder.
