Always loved watching Bridcutt play and thought he could play at the highest level. Sunderland were in free-fall by that point and he obviously lost a lot of confidence.
Blaming Poyet is a bit far fetched but it could be he sold them the dream and Sunderland delivered the nightmare.

I loved Bridcutt when he was here, he was absolutely superb. To be fair to Gus, I remember saying to people I thought he would go to the top. I also said the same of Gus too!
Football is so much about timing. Sometimes a manager, a player and a football club all come together at the right time and it works brilliantly but they can never repeat it elsewhere and that definitely seemed to be the case here.

Always felt Bridcutt (and Buckley on his day) had the potential to be decent Prem players. I guess the problem for Liam was that he was such a specialist in that holding role that you couldn't really play him as part of a central pair so he needed to be at another side that played the tiki taka style Poyet instilled here

You could argue that the turning point of Bridcutt's career was not following Gus to Sunderland but breaking his foot a week after being made captain of Leeds Utd in September 2016.
This isn't the first time Liam's cavity wall insulating big brother has been referenced on a football forum..

I saw Bridcutt ,Buckley and Chicksen all playing for Bolton last season against Sunderland. Bridcutt was their captain and still looked like he had something about him,best player on the pitch by far. Buckley looked as though he couldn't be bothered and Chicksen was anonymous. Chris O'Grady had just signed for Bolton, had a short conversation with him outside the stadium and wished him well.He was a bit fazed to be approached by an Albion shirt and baseball cap I think. Nice bloke and spoke well of his short time with us.
