I’m not talking here about signing Messi. But we’ve made a good start with Lallana and Veltman, and as we start to build on Tony’s vision to be a top 10 club (and signing young talent), what would be your (semi-realistic) dream window?
Mine:
In:
Watkins £18m
Sarr £30m
AMN £20m
Left back ‘left sided Lamptey’ £12m
Total spent £80m
Out:
Duffy £12m
March £15m
AJ £15m
Andone £10m
Gross £8m
Total received £60m

Net spend: £20m

Easy. Please, Uncle Tony.

Football Manager hat on then.

In:

- Back up goalkeeper if someone leaves and Walton goes back out on Loan or sold - 2 Mil
- Left back - Jamal Lewis / Rico Henry - 10-15 mil
- CDM - Ainsley Maitland-Niles - 15 mil (can do without this one but if its ANM he provides cover for so many other positions)
- Attacking Midfield/Winger - Brooks / Sarr - 25-30 mil .... More likely to be Dan James on loan
- Striker - Edouard - 30 mil

Out:

Goalkeeper - Free
- Duffy - 12 mil
- Montoya - 3 mil (Only if ANM comes in as he would add extra cover)
- Gross - 8 mil
- Ali J - 10 mil (Happy for him to stay if we don't sign another winger)
- Andone - 5 mil

Net, roughly 40-50 mil but more like 20-30 if James comes in on loan...... (I don't think we will or should spend anywhere near 50 mil net, just playing along). The only way that happens is if Tony decides that it really is a buyers market and thinks it's actually a really good time to invest, with a view to spending less next summer when prices go back up.

I can't see AJ and March going for a combined 30 million. I think we'd be lucky to get 15 million for the pair. Or 10 million for Andone, when clubs know we want rid of him.

Apart from White, everybody seems very keen to forget/phase out our young players breaking through - Alzate, Connolly, Molumby and Clarke don't seem to figure in anyone's plans.
I wonder if GP, TB and DA see it the same way?

Surely as we don’t ever seem to use wingers or at least wide players apart from full backs / wing backs we won’t go for James? Unless he can play more centrally?

Also if you’re saying AMN I’m guessing you’re thinking of him predominantly as a LWB? As many say he wants to play CM.

Think the OPs is good.

LWB is the key position for me as I see the Burnley formation being our main one next season. A left footed version of Lamptey is what we need imo. AMN as cover for both wing backs but predominantly a midfielder with pace..? That’s what I’m thinking - but maybe that’s too much to expect.

dream window . . . . we swap Solly for De Bruyne with Man city . . . Real Madrid swoop for Stephens and give us Gareth Bale free, and he happily accepts £20k a week to wear stripes.

except we haven't got stripes, this is when I woke up.

Liverpool have already had a 10 million quid bid for Lewis rejected.

hope so in context of this thread, means they arent leaving. there's a good pool of talent proven there (esp Alzate) that need some experience sprinkled around.

a decent striker is the simple dream for me. Maupay needs support, Connolly needs some more development.

I appreciate the OP posed 'DREAM' window, but some of the valuations people think we'd be able to sign players for are wildly optimistic. Watkins isn't signing anywhere for £18m, Norwich want £20m for Lewis, £15m for AMN isn't happening, etc.

Similarly those imagining we'd be able to sell Andone - not happening while he's recovering from ACL surgery.

The realistic 'dream' for me, would be to keep Dunk, add a rapid LWB and a striker, and not lose anyone who regularly features.

The ones I think we can afford to lose, are Alireza, Duffy, Montoya, Groß OR Mooy, both back up keepers, Locadia if a permanent deal can be done, Bernardo IF we sign a new LB/ LWB, Stephens IF we sign a replacement.

Yep, just a striker coming in would satisfy me for this window too.

That's why I put 10-15 . Norwich want 20 but will probably settle for 15ish.

Henry would go for around 10-12 I think. Obviously have no idea of those players would be on our list or not, but that's the sort of amount I would expect us to be willing to pay, for what is probably our weakest area.

Going on the current rumours if we can bring in Maitland Niles, either Watkins or Josh King, a winger like Brooks or Sarr, and a left back then we'd have done very well. Adding to that the squad being strengthened by the possible additions of White, Molumby, Walton, and Clarke. Maybe not realistic but we can dream...

We'd then need to sell/loan any of the following to balance things up;

Steele
Button
Montoya
Duffy
Andone
AJ or March
Stephens

Also whats the current situation with Locadia? Still loaned out or did we get a fee for him?

If we got somewhere in the region of £10m each for any of Knockaert, Duffy, AJ, March, Locadia, or Stephens then we could be looking at a much improved squad for relatively little net spend.

What do you think AMN would go for? I see a player who hasn't nailed down a position yet and a team selling who will be desperate to raise some funds. As good as he may be and the potential he's got, I can't see a team paying much more than 15 mil in the current climate. If it wasn't for Covid and Arsenal's need to to revamp the squad I'd say 20-25 mil.

We need a striker to line up alongaide/compete with Maupay and Connolly, with Murray taking a more backseat role, but still with a part to play.

Three CBs with two wingbacks means we need about nine quality defenders - Dunk, Webster, Burn, White, Veltman and Lamptey should be six of those. I think Bernardo and March are very good on the left, but neither have the role nailed down. Montoya and Duffy are fine in their positions, but are no longer the first or even second choice in their positions so may be time to move on. They would be good squad players though. Alzate can fill in at RB and, if they are here next season, Baluta, Ostigard and Clarke at CB. Not sure how good Cochrane is, as such, possibly a new LWB.

Central and defensive midfield is an area we're well stocked. Next season I'm hoping to see Bissouma, Alzate, Propper and perhaps Molumby being our main players here, with Stephens mostly on the bench. Were we to get AMN, his versatility would be incredibly useful during a game moving from CM toout wide, wingback, fullback or even centre back if needed. Baluta again could play here if he is at the club next season, and White has played here too.

AM and on the wing is where we will see the biggest changed I think. March, Izquierdo, Jahanbakhsk, Mooy, Gross, Lallana, Trossard and Mac Allister. I think we have enough quality here to let a few players go (either Mooy or Gross, Izquierdo or Ali) and not need to replace anyone, using the funds elsewhere.

Overall, a new ST is the main priority, then a LWB/LB, then a versatile CM. Keep Dunk. Allow a few of the squad members near the bottom of the pecking order to leave. Walton and perhaps Sanchez to become first team GK.

There has been a good start with Lallana and Veltman - but the club needs to be looking a 2/3 players costing upwards of £70/80million. Quality is needed at several positions and quality costs money (and if you can get speed with quality then you can hit a home run).

I've never seen a home run in football.

if 10-20 isn't enough to better what we have, serious money will need to be spent . . . . that being the case we have to sell.

no one will want MArch, AJ could go abroad, Likewise Gross, possibly, but I'd rather we kept him.

I agree with several others . . . . all we 'NEED' is a bigger striker with a head
