Looking for a structural engineer to take a look at a couple of properties - one in Sarf London, the other near Watford. Both listed buildings, so experience of that essential.

Any takers/recommendations?

If its a listed building sureely a good traditional buiilder would be a better bet ? most younger structural engineers are panic monkeys only concerned with litigation avoidance.

Hmm. That's a thought. Initially, I'm after advice about what I should do before engaging the relevant contractor(s) to do whatever the best thing is. I'm certainly more interested in getting pragmatic advice from a seasoned person than a paper-based report from a panic-monkey.

OK - let's widen the search: any good traditional builders with knowledge of listed buildings on here/recommendations?

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of good SE's around, but they mostly saeem to specialise is suggesting enourmous steels to support a chipboard flat roof!

I had a roof spread issue on my old house ( c1720) as the slates had been replaced with Kent Cob clays and one wall was timber framed. I was advised to fit 2 pairs of 8x2" beams bolted, massive over kill. If only the engineer had realised the wall that moved was wood!

Gyory Self in Portslade did the calcs for my loft from my drawings, amazingly they agreed with my guestimated suggestion!!
