I think there's a lot more to the story of Greer joining us though. He'd had a falling out in the dressing room at Swindon, allegedly for a John Terry-esque liasion and had to leave. We started the season away to Swindon and he wasn't there for it, which I think tells a thousand words. £250,000 was nothing considering his contribution.

It's also interesting that he didn't really believe we could become a bigger club than to justify something more than Withdean. I can't imagine he was alone in that, but the team he captained was crucial in building the club. He's one of our best ever centre backs.

I think the fact that he was suspended for our first two matches of the season is probably more relevant.

(He was sent-off in the play-off semi-final 2nd leg for Swindon and had a three-match ban; he missed the play-off final for Swindon and the remaining two-match ban followed him to Albion).
