Watching all of this makes me wonder how they raised any money - different times!

Might have to get the dvd box set out to have a watch. Or intend to do it and get distracted by something else later.

Sadly pre-dates JustGiving - and indeed any meaningful form of tinternet - else they'd maybe have raised much much more. Still, on the plus side Bono tonight thank God it's them instead of you :tosser:

It's interesting to see people's memories of this: I didn't see a single minute of it. Given its prominence in recollections of that era, it does make me wonder just what the hell I was doing on that day. I can't imagine that I'd have wanted to watch hours of it, but I'm surprised that I didn't see any of it.

I was 13 when Live Aid aired. I regrettably had little interest in it at the time. I hadn't really gotten in to music then. If it had happen a couple of years latter I would have been all over it.

The awful and fragmented link to Collins on the plane didn't work at all.

Botham and Willis interview went for a ball of chalk.

The Who were pants (more sound issues).

U2 saved the day, although the boys at the back carried on playing whilst Bono went-a-marching off the front of the stage for the poor maiden in distress. Caused them to miss a song from their set, and they had no idea what Hewson was doing out of their sight.

It was feckin' hot that day. Worked in the morning in a/c office, home to the sweltering heat indoors. All the windows open due to the heat, cold beer.

There were many tech problems all day.

I was about 5, and my memory is a vague 'watched some of it'. But I like big concerts like that so got the DVD when it came out. I think it's hard in this day and age to comprehend just how big an event it was. I mean, these days of internet and commercialised music industry, and PR, getting everyone together for an event like that, and broadcasting live around the world at the same time was an amazing achievement.

Have to admit to watching some of it, tho made a point of swerving Concorde-poncing Phil Collins on both ends of the Atlantic. Take A Look At Me Now? Sorry, not going to happen ****

Watched from start to finish and made a day and night of it. There were some great acts, average acts and acts I just don’t like but great cause and lots of fun. So much variety and span of music

Freddie Mercury stole the show and Queen were the standout band, and I say that as someone who was a bit meh about them. Sensational

Any excuse to post one of my hero's though!

Same for me. My excuse is I was living in Canada and didn't like stadium gigs, or Queen, or most of the other artists on the bill.

Silly old bat
I watched the vast majority of it at the time, telling the family they would have to have fish & chips for dinner because I wasn't going in the kitchen at all.

I watched the highlights on BBC2 on Saturday evening.

You certainly started with your ignore list at a very young age

Yep. Back then I generated antibodies to anything mainstream. Canadian radio was unlistenable, and that was only partly due to the 'Canadian content' law (that required a fair % of music played on the radio every hour to be Candian, and there are only so many times you can listen to Big Yellow Taxi without losing the will to live). CITR (Vancouver college radio) was decent, but I think none of the acts on the live aid bill were ever played on that station. Rather than become enraged by stuff I dislike it makes sense to ignore it.

Sorry, I realise you were making a joke :lolol:

:lolol: Joni Mitchell has written some great songs but she is totally unlistenable to me.

I totally refuse to believe that you didn’t like any act at all on Live Aid though
