16 year old Malmö FF right back Casper Nilsson seems all but done to be joining Brighton on a 3 year contract. MFF DoF says its not 100% done yet, but I'm sure it will be.

Apparently trained with Brighton already back in 2018.

Exciting news? Perhaps not... but who knows, maybe in a few years this is considered a great day.

Translation please Simon!

He's a defender. He'll go to a fourth division team, then third division and finally join Leeds United in the Championship.

Then the melodrama of forgetfulness will start as he is touted as another bright star in the Champions of Europe's fold.

Well I mentioned the basic stuff in the first post but here' a summarised translation:

Born somewhere around Ystad and has been making a name for himself in Malmö FF's youth academy (its a pretty good one tbf).

Daniel Andersson (DoF) confirms Brighton are interested. Since he got a contract, Brighton needs to buy him. Deal "not completely done".

If the transfer happens he could play for the U18 as well as the U23. Made his Malmö FF U19 debut against Landskrona BoIS in the U19 League Cup earlier this year.

Wouldnt be the first young Swede to join Brighton as Gyökeres and Gwargis joined the club in recent years.

I've heard about this before, in fact everybody's talkin' about it.

Could add that Malmö got a few decent former players out in Europe, including another Brighton target (Mattias Svanberg):

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, AC Milan
Robin Olsen, AS Roma
Mattias Svanberg, Bologna
Pontus Jansson, Brentford
Filip Helander, Rangers
Jimmy Durmaz, Galatasaray

Hope this guy turns into a decent baller as well.

And, if I'm not mistaken, here is the lad wearing an Albion shirt (no. 2, not no. 10):-

Just as a matter of interest, how do we find out about a 16-year old at Malmo? Do we have scouts in every European country? Do we monitor press reports of every youth game played in the world? Does someone from Malmo recommend him to teams across Europe? It does intrigue me how clubs pick up kids so young.

Without knowing Brightons specific method it's usually done like this:

Phase 1:

Watching relevant (i.e. from cheap markets) youth national teams and tournaments & data gathered from these

Watching international/continental youth team tournaments & data

Using scouting tools (like WyScout) that provide data over basically ever player

Phase 2:

Assigning the regional scout (I'd imagine Brighton got a scout mainly covering Scandinavia as its a cheap market with well-educated players that already know English etc) to watch a couple of games where they track a specific player found during "phase 1".

Tony Bloom’s dog ‘Trevor Who’s A Good Boy’ runs 10 Football Manager 19/20 simulations simultaneously at the training ground and reports back accordingly. It really is finger on the pulse, high level research.
