WTF is going on in Leicester ? 11 days ago Matt Hancock announced the impending issue on the daily breifing, 'Highlighting the Importance of the Test and Trace' system.

https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/news/leicester-news/health-secretary-matt-hancock-says-4241385

The Mayor is saying he only started getting data on it 4 days ago and still doesn't have the required data

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/leicester-faces-two-more-weeks-22268856.

And there seems to be no action taken other than 'maybe discussing' pushing back the next stage of lifting lockdown from July 4th. It's almost as if we have learnt absolutely nothing from the last 5 months ?

If they push back from lifting lockdown measures in Leicester, specifically pubs, on July 4th, is there anything to prevent the good people of Leicester from just jumping in their car and driving to any one of the nearby towns and cities for a drink? Hope so, else it'll spread faster and further than it maybe would have done otherwise

Seems like the Buffoon has finally come up with a strategy to deal with the pandemic that has killed 65,000+ people in this nation.

The "whack-a-mole" strategy.

Why does he have to trivialise everything? What is wrong with the pillock that we need to have a jolly jape term to describe everything? Why is he so ****ing patronising?

Why can't he just **** off and leave us all alone to deal with it ourselves - probably in a much better way than is being done now?

Why am I so ****ing angry about this ****ing government and its incompetent, useless, waste-of-space members?

Rant … rant … rant … Not over.

Shirley could have added on to one of the other 8,428 threads on Covid.
That isn't how a forum works. If it was, then that reasoning would apply to new football stuff as well and result in one mega thread.

Bozza separated the Covid part of the forum from the main part so that people wouldn't find it distressing. I wonder why you are looking here in that case. I avoid the bear pit as I don't appreciate that. I suggest you do the same with the Covid part.

Really sorry that this is all a bit dull for you. It is quite literally a matter of life or death and quite important that the people we voted for to run the show, make a decent fist of it. If we get track trace and lockdown wrong we will be back at Covid square one.

Aah great, another Covid thread.

Another for the pit of doom.

Boris is rubbish, Starmer would have done better, bunch of clowns.....blah blah

As has been said on many a subject, if you're not interested, don't read it and even more importantly don't comment on things that are still affecting millions of people, with dire consequences for many!

Wonder how much of it is Leicester being selected by central government as a trial run to work through the practicalities of how local lockdown will be implemented. Did Leicester just draw the short straw?

Not dull, but you still haven't addressed why it needed its own thread.

I agree about the consequences, still didn't need another thread though.

To be fair to you, thanks for the understanding regarding the consequences.

This does deserve a thread of its own as this the first opportunity the government has had to demonstrate how they will react to localised outbreaks and localised lockdowns.

Let's see if Boris gets his Wacka-mole hammer out or will it just be a blunt tool of telling the bars, pubs, hairdressers of Leicester to not open for an additional two weeks, while all the punters jump in their cars and go 10 minutes down the road out of the city for their hair cuts and pints, potentially spreading the virus further afield.

This. But that shouldn't have needed explanation.

I thought precisely that, it supposedly gives the government the opportunity to show it's local lockdown strategy, which if anything in the past is evidence to go by, is likely to be poorly thought out and unworkable...

The bolded bit is very much the issue with the strategy IMO. Can you imagine a local lockdown in (say) Croydon hitting just before a really sunny weekend? They'd be heading down here with their factor 30 and cans of WKD before you can say rat infested shithole. And guess which place would then get the spike.....
