Right down to business.
Sorry this is shameless stolen from Frank Skinner but it was such an enjoyable feature I figured it was worthy of a Sunday on here:-

What horrors adorned your home through your formative years?

Ma & Pa stat were either big fans of, or had foisted upon them, sea shells

I seem to remember something similar to this only (I kid you not) shittier.

Thankfully nothing as scary as

Still have the conch shell , my mum gave it me when I was 9 after visiting tropical Woodside bay holiday camp on the isle of wight , it sits rightly out of place amongst today's modern gadgets and art nouveau, and that's where it will stay .

Seems harsh you had to get the conch before you could ask for your dinner:

My mum had this type of ornament on a shelving unit, I say had as one of my friends managed to accidentally break it.

Yep - and matching Horse Brasses as well.

Horse brasses around the fire place, and some bellows even though it was a gas fire and had been for many years by that point.

My Nan and Grandad had that above their fireplace when I was a kid. It remained until my Nan moved into a care home in the mid 2000's. Not one of my mum, her two sisters or any of us 10 grandchildren wanted the thing. Even the people clearing the rubbish from her flat were reluctant to take it.

OK, hands up, I'm to blame. Our little gift and souvenir shop sold all these items.
Can I add to the list-
Spun Glass.
Those damn horses.
Mini silver plated tea set. £9.99 on the back page of the colour supplements. £4.99 my shop. Cost about 50p
Newtons cradle.
Venus de Milo statues. About 12" high.

And now look to the future.
Biggest line last year was a turtle cut from a coconut shell.

You hadn't arrived in the 1960s / 70s until you had one of those indoor orange plastic water fountains.

Can't find a picture anywhere - Which must mean that they aint making a comeback. Oh the trauma !
