Really? - I listen to her partly because I enjoy her voice and laugh (along with the music). I listen to Lauren and her most mornings, then turn it off when Keaveny comes on. Can't stand him!

Absolutely. Far too twee and I can’t bear it when she talks about a track that’s been ‘lifted’ from an album. She does play good music though.

I'm not that bothered either way, but MAH's fawning over guests and ott sycophancy really winds my girlfriend up.

I've been enjoying Iggy Pop on a Friday night of late.
I heard Radcliffe and Maconie on their weekend show a little while ago, and it made me realise how much I missed them from when they were on midweek afternoons, when I tend to listen more.
Mary Anne Hobbs plays excellent music, but I sometimes find her irritating.
Steve Lamacq often gives me a Proustian nudge back to my mid nineties Eastbourne youth, plus I respect his support of Colchester United.
Marc Riley appeals to the farty, slightly dreary, old anorak in me.

I absolutely love 6music, the Defund the BBC morons need more of it in their lives.

I also can’t stand MAH’s voice. Tom Ravenscroft’s dry, laconic tones on the other hand are audio porn to my ears. That boy could play no music whatsoever and I’d still tune in.

There's a theme here of people repeating precise conversations I've had with mates about 6 Music. This is EXACTLY where me and one of my good mates are on MAH :clap2:

Laverne talks far too much gibberish, one of my least favourite presenters. I like R&M and Guy Garvey.

I liked the odd show with musicians playing their selections . . .need to mix it up more.

R&M are an institution.

Gideon Coe is great, plays a fantastic array of stuff

GIles Peterson blows hot & cold for me likewise Marc Riley.

Love Don Letts, Iggy, Freakzone, Cerys and Garvey both plays some good stuff, but I won't make a special note of tuning in. Huey is brilliant on a Saturday morning

not a big fan of Craig Charles, he plays some good stuff, sometimes, but far too Commitments/Butlins for my liking.

Steve Lamaq . . . meh . . . just sounds like he's overexcited to have the job.

Tom Ravenscroft, Chris Hakwins and Cerys Matthews the favourites for me. Hawkins and Ravenscroft play the bangers and I just like the cut of Cerys Matthews's jib.

I also enjoy it whenever Craig Charles steps in to cover the breakfast show, was a particular tonic for when Shaun Keaveny stunk it out with his dull miserablist schtick.

Why do you think Tom Ravenscroft has never been given a regular show? He’s been super sub for years now. I always thought he was being lined up to replace someone but it’s never happened. Unless it’s his decision?

These days I dip in and out of 6 Music. Reading the comments on here about Mary Anne Hobbs' voice reminded me of having the same annoyance with Nemone back when I used to listen regularly. However, I heard her recently and she seemed to be speaking in her normal voice rather than doing that 'dreamscape hippy wonder' thing that she used to do. A massive improvement. It was like listening to old Peel instead of sixties Peel.

Yep, mysterious isn't it, in a league of his own for me, and I suspect what you say is the reason, i.e. his decision.

‘Dreamscape hippy wonder’ perfectly sums up both of their delivery! :lolol:

I think that is likely the case. If you DJ every day or multiple times a week you would start to run out of tunes and get repetitive . . . would be nice to have a month to get a new set list together.

I love 6 Music and one of the great things about WFH is that I can have the radio on. Agreed on MAH voice, but she does play good music and has some good stories. I am a bit of an indie boy so do like Steve Lamacq, Lauren Laverne. Shaun can be funny but not sure it is right for 6 music but he does play his fair share of 90s indie so is alright with me. RadMac I can listen to all day everyday.

A few years ago we were on a break in Lyme Regis, apparetment on the beach,. just had a lazy lunch and a beer after a swim, reading the paper, R&M on . . . .and Radcliffe piped up and played our new single. Happy Days. I agree NAthan, they should be on more, and would happily listen all day.

Cerys could read me the phone book in those warm, embracing tones like having honey and treacle poured in to the ear.

Same.

At the other end of the scale. Lock me in a room with just 5 minutes of MAH's voice and I'll confess to anything just to make it stop.

I do love the way RadMac dissect the minutiae of British life in a way surely only Brits do, discussing things like favourite pork pie toppings or crisp wrappers from the 1970s, utterly obscure stuff discussed, debated, dissected in vaguely flippant but also quite ‘serious’ tones and to the nth degree. Similarly Keaveny’s small claims court, so quintessentially British.
