Yep, pretty much this.

I could have a look and see if its possible, the official "Furlough " goes til Oct 1st I believe ? I can't see my company wanting me back at any time before that, our sales are negligible and unlikely to improve much in the coming months and the franchise directors will probably immediately cut jobs ( probably mine ) the moment government support is withdrawn. As I recall, there may be some jobs going near Chi/Bognor/Selsey but I really wouldn't enjoy the 40 mile daily commute to do it.

I have currently been told to expect to be furloughed until the end of June but it could go on until October - leisure centres have never specifically been mentioned as being part of the July 4th unlock so it could be either. Given that Charles was on about "pickers who are stickers" yesterday, even if furloughed staff are allowed to take a second job doing it then they won't all be able to commit long term as the end of their furlough is unknown. That is what I meant by not thought through. It obviously needs doing but they seem to be targeting the wrong group of people to do it as many won't be able to. Were it supported by legislation to force employers to allow their staff to take part all the time they are mothballed then great - there would be thousands of people around 20 who work for us that could get involved. But it isn't so by asking for people who can do the job all summer and are furloughed, they are massively limiting the available pool. Hopefully it will be filled and the website crashing shows there is demand but it just seemed another cack-handed announcement that could have been handled in a better way.

Ouch. Thought I would see if the site was working again but a word of advice. Don't type Pick For Britain into Bing. I dread to think how many lists I am now on having got these results.

That's exactly what came up for me..... can easily see that some patriotic potential fruit pickers get subducted in to a world of right wing anger if they don't get the job !

Just tell them that if they don't do the work, Muslims will do it which will mean all of the stuff picked is Halal and eating it will cause you to embrace Sharia Law. They'll be a queue of people this long.

Pick for Britain, lol. I chuckle at the idea you need to dress this up with nationalistic nonsense in an attempt to gets lazy arsed Brits suitably motivated and off their sofa and into the fields.

Pathetic. Truly pathetic.

I think I might’ve stumbled on the Socialist Worker forum by mistake.

I think that Justice is referring to the days, not so long past, when "Gangmasters " effectively supplied the labour for farms and the farm owners were pretty unconcerned about the pay and conditions of the actual labourers doing the graft. The farms didn't ask too many questions as long as the work got done as their contract was with the gangmasters which subsequently meant they were not responsible or liable. Think Morecombe Bay Cockle pickers, if you like. Modern Slavery Legislation is now in place to help prevent this but I'm pretty sure it still goes on in one way or another.

sure there are problems and as you note action from government. these a likely exception that rule, when we see that these workers return year after year to do the work.

Romping across those sunlit uplands, digging British born and bred Vegetables from British Fields, Jerusalem pumping out on Spotify. How could any true patriot possibly resist ???

You ain't going to get the unemployed doing fruit picking - they're all too busy watching daytime telly on their massive flat-screen TV's whilst wearing £500 trainers and smoking 40 a day. Think of all the extra money they've got now McDonald's is shut and they can't go on holiday to Tenerife every month. They're just taking the piss. Just like Richard Littlejohn in The Daily Mail and Trevor Kavanagh in The Sun, I pay all my taxes just so people can claim it in benefits and spend it on getting the latest smartphone from Argos. Total piss take and political correctness gone mad as normal.

Nothing in West Sussex, alas. Nearest farms with jobs are the Isle of Wight and Kent, which isn’t convenient for Rustington or Southwick.

Foiled again!

Rubbish just not dedicated enough. You can live on the farm while picking for Britain. £58.25 per week, so 1 day's back breaking work and your accommodation is paid for.

Look forward to your stories from the farm once you have signed up.

Shame this wasn't in Newhaven, I would be interested in a few hours a day.
Arundel is too far out for me. Hope your friend of a friend finds the people they need.
