Blood Clots and Coronavirus

Amongst the death stats obsessives (yes I am included here) there has been a lot of debate around the accurate recording of cause of death.

The virus has been tightly linked to pneumonia/respiratory problems, but there is now growing evidence that Covid-19 may be responsible for blood clotting issues. This has been seen in CT Scans where high numbers of micro blood clots have been observed in the lungs, but there is now a lot of interest in high incidents of stroke in low risk patients and in Pulmonary Embolism.

The last one is possibly the most muddled, as one of the major risk factors is lying in-active in hospital.

The two most interesting things to note here, is just how difficult it makes it to accurately record cause of death, if this is a factor and the opportunity to treat patients with anti-coagulant drugs (blood thinners).

saw something along these lines awhile ago, there was no evidence to support it though. if correct, is it cause or effect? may link with the demographics of victims.

Sorry to nitpick, there is plenty of evidence to support it, which is why there is a lot of work kicking off to better understand the links and the significance. There are though no definitive conclusions yet either way, which is what I think you meant.

A quick selection from google news Pulmonary Embolism and COVID-19 same observations looking at different sources.

You read a lot of people on here, who are convinced they have had Covid-19 when they were feeling ill earlier in the year. I am not saying anyone is wrong, but just highlighting a thing called positive affirmation bias, (you find evidence to support what you are looking for and dismiss/play down evidence to the contrary). I have a deep personal interest in this and could well be guilty of positive affirmation bias.

More evidence that taking Vitamin D supplements - an anticoagulant - will help against bad Coronavirus outcomes.

Boosting your immunity system claims, always seem to be an easy way to part fools with their money. In this instance a combination of Vitamin D, C Zinc and Magnesium, looks like a good bet, along with good sleep. However anyone one blood thinners need to check that any supplements don't interfere with the prescribed drugs.

This stuff is important, suggesting that there is a way to reduce the number of people getting hospitalised AND to reduce deaths in hospitals through administering blood thinners (except where there is a risk of bleeding).
