Manchester United have been granted permission to trial around 1,500 barrier seats at Old Trafford.

The club held positive talks with Trafford Council prior to the coronavirus outbreak and will now install a safe standing facility, following a change in safety guidelines.

The plans for 1,500 seats in J-Stand have now been approved for use when supporters are allowed back into the stadium, with United considering potentially installing it in other areas of Old Trafford if successful

I understand they don't have safe seating or safe gangways yet, let alone large tv screens. Seems a bit cart before the horse!

When I go to Old Trafford I have no choice but to stand. Nowhere near enough legroom (I'm 6ft 3in).

If it's anything like that in the home sections of the ground there must be a lot of very sore kneecaps.

They'd also struggle to find 1500 fans interested in standing and singing or otherwise making an atmosphere.

A section of the Stretford End rarely stops singing at OT when I've been there, they also never seem to be sitting down either.

Still can't see Bloom/Barbs spending all the dough to convert when most of the Norff stand anyway.

Is there any significant demand for it? I remember Barber said a survey suggested interest was low. No one I know feels that strongly about it either.

Did you go to the cup game a couple of years back? They let their away supporters congregate in one corner to try and make an atmosphere. It worked...in the one corner.

Yes. Had to move them right up close to us it the hope we wouldn't notice that no one else in the ground seemed to care less about the game.
