[Travel] MOT extensions?

Sorry if fixtures.

I was under the impression that every car owner had been given
6 months extension to organise the MOT on their car because of
the current situation.

This morning I had a text (legitimate) from the garage where I usually get the
car done saying that the DVLA have not issued a revised MOT expiry
date for my vehicle and to therefore book the car in.

I immediately thought firstly, surely they're not still working are they? and then,
is this just a ploy to get some work at the moment? (a bit cynical of me maybe)

Or maybe I misjudged the MOT people (essential key workers?)

Anyone know of the situation as far as "extensions" or what we're obliged
to do etc.

Ours is due this month as well, and we are going on the Gov website advice.

GOV UK - MOT

Your car, van or motorcycle’s MOT expiry date will be extended by 6 months if it’s due on or after 30 March 2020 - but you must keep your vehicle safe to drive.

Sounds as though your garage has made a mistake. Ours phoned us last week to cancel our MOT which was due in the next week or two. It is cancelled indefinitely (within the 6 month period).

Mine is due 14th April and I had booked it in with Halfords for the 11th April. Halfords phoned me to postpone the test until 1st May as in their words "the government had allowed me a six month extension"

What happens if you get your vehicle tested within this period? Will it be valid for a year from September? Whatever happens they're surely going to get a whole bunch of people wanting their vehicles tested in September and will be overwhelmed?

EDIT: In response to the OT have you checked the due date on the Government website? https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history

Mine still says 17th May but maybe that will change closer to the time?

Mines due in September anyway....and I’ve booked it in to avoid the rush

There won’t be a rush in September. It will be a normal level of demand. Everyone’s due dates been pushed back 6 months, so in September it will just be the people who had their MOT due in March, no one else.

The people who were due in September will now be getting one done in March 2021. Mine was due December so I won’t be doing mine until June 2021.
