If out people out jogging can't engage their brains then we will ALL have the right to leave our houses for any form of exercise taken away!

This afternoon went out for brisk walk as part of my exercise. As I crossed road I noted that young bloke in full Lycra gear and headphones was potentially going to be on same pavement as me. However, i noted there was a parallel piece of pavement that was the logical route he could follow and only deviate from his existing route slightly. I wrongly assumed common sense as I hear steps from behind approaching and he is about 10 feet away and was about to run past my shoulder within touching distance. He is in a world of his own showing no sign of stepping to either side. Ultimately, I quickly had to jump to one side onto the grass verge to ensure a safe distance. As he passed he did not turn round and acknowledge in any way that I had needed to take evasive action. Now I don't care if you have all the gear and are attempting your 20 mile run personal best, my exercise in whatever form it takes is as important as yours as is our safety.

An elderly couple on BBC News just recounted a similar experience.

Happened to us on Green Ridge this morning. Woman in need of exercise huffed and puffed whilst overtaking is on our walk. Came within three feet - I wasn’t happy and the missus was incandescent with rage.

Talking of engaging your brain what was wrong with the other five or so threads?

I recommend carrying a six foot long pointed stick at all times.

If that doesn't work, you could always merge the threads

I'm a runner myself and I've noticed there seem to be a whole wave of "new runners" taking to the street. I've found myself running in the road most of the time just to make sure I'm keeping my distance from anyone. I'm used to making space for other people and keeping a good awareness of what's going on around me, so this is just an extension of that. The new runners seem to be causing the most problems for people. It's like a lot of them expect people to get out of their way and I guess they aren't used to the awareness you need to have when you run along streets.

Having said that, there's plenty of walking idiots disengaging their brains too.

Reminds me of the pricks all geared up on their carbon bikes who tear along the seafront like they're at the Velodrome.

Constantly going round a roundabout?

That would be very prickish behaviour.

You are not going to catch the virus from someone running or even walking past you. It's an over-reaction. If they coughed on you that would be different. I strictly observe the rules, but I sure as hell am not walking in the road to pass people unless there is a risk of actual contact. There is no requirement to do that. According to the HSE, you need to be within two metres of each other for around 15 minutes to risk transmission. If you are walking near people in a non-momentary way then it's different.

What about when you pay for goods in a shop ?

Well quite. Still, it's a grass's paradise at the moment. Won't be long before there are people social media shaming people for taking their rubbish out at the same time they're passing the bin on their daily constitutional (that was never part of their routine until two weeks ago).

Speaking about taking the rubbish out, I took mine out on Thursday night and I got a round of applause!

It's what I call Piety Porn. People on their self-righteous high horses, showing that angst of their sinless lives to see how many 'likes' their egos can land.

I can get it when its about knobheads who give not a shit, but some of this stuff is more about people's egos. Makes me cringe. How did these folk establish their moral superiority when we didn't have video cameras ?

Glad I’m not in the UK at the mo. Attitudes as displayed by the OP show how hysteria can set in. Someone running past you will not do anything. Jumping out of the way, Christ.
