there's a monument at Hockenheim where he died

it was found completely overgrown with racing fans just sitting on it

this was back in the late 90's I think

thankfully it's been cleaned up,but with the circuit layout being changed,I'm not sure how many people see it

he hated Spa,but won there quite a few times from what I remember

never won at Monte Carlo I believe

Sublime driver who won in saloon cars, sports cars, F2 and Grand Prix cars.

Clearly impossible to put him against Hamilton, Senna and Shumacher as they didn't race in the same eras but they didn't do what he did for example competing in (and winning) the Indianapolis 500 while being a World Champion GP driver.

Easily my favourite racing driver.

My first sporting hero. Truly a legend.

Ali was my second; Wardy my third. Pretty elevated company there, Peter.

For me Senna. That documentary showed how a driver with a slower car could perform almost miracles.

Mansell had retired from F1 when he took up CART so never did it at the same time.

As an aside I went to Jersey for work a few years back (took Mrs Jakarta) and visited his Museum. He has absolutely everything and I mean EVERYTHING from his whole racing career, (Cars, Suits, Helmets) going back to 6th place trophies from Karting in the 1960s.

Mrs J being a Head Teacher and having seen this stuff before immediately placed him on the Autistic Spectrum!
