The humble Rockling was the first fish i ever caught , 1970 on the Palace Pier , in those days you could fish off the platform that extended out at a lower level before the barge thumped into it , i saw some absolute clonking fish taken off that platform though i never managed to land a monster there , things will get better and fisher folk will return to their beloved waters , who knows , a couple of months without all the french trawlers chugging up and down our coastline there may actually be a bit of a fisherboom for a while .

About a month before the referendum I was fishing on Worthing pier when an a Old couple approached me handing out pro-leave flyers about getting rid of all the foreign trawlers that were stealing all our fish.. I politely refused a flyer.
She pointed to the two trawlers about a mile and a half off and said " if we vote to leave we can stop them slaughtering all our Mackerel" " they go up and down day after day and we can't stop them" I had to point out that a, the pair trawlers she pointed out that went up and down day after day from Shoreham to Littlehampton were NOT trawling for Mackerel, just everything. And b, that the two trawlers indicated were Scottish boats that came down every Spring claiming " Grandfather Rights" and would not be going anywhere soon whatever the result of the referendum...
Poor old dear was very confused, her husband saw me talking to her and so I explained to him his wife's misconceptions about the indicated trawlers... He weighed things up, nodded and said " Come on Mabel, let's leaflet the other side of the Pier" and they scuttled off.
I am sticking with The Guardian to inform my balanced, objective, measured and well researched socialist agenda but boy is their new IPad format hard work.

1) That those in our society prone to panic and overreact continue to grow in number. As life has become ever more comfortable, any slight change of lifestyle is viewed as a disaster. Extremes of view have become normal for these people.
2) Greed and profiteering is out there and alive and flourishing. Smaller stores charging ridiculous prices for certain goods. Online companies doing the same. This strategy will come back and bite when normality returns and they find they have been boycotted.
3) Business ( particularly small and medium sized ) is, as usual, at the back of the priority list. Outside of loss of turnover and laying off staff, what consideration has been given to the millions of pounds of stock loss suffered by many sectors, particularly foodservice/hospitality. Crop growers and nurseries facing disaster. So many sectors affected long term. Some people have no idea the damage this is doing to industry. Thousands of companies will not be able to re-start and will close for good. It is not as simple as closing and re-opening. The economy will have to be kick-started and huge help will be needed.
4) Everything comes a distant second to your health. Money, Football, Brexit. You name it. Don't spend hours worrying about other issues. This is the only issue.

I've learnt it's much easier than I thought to lose 7lbs in just over a week . Eating frugally is definitely helping .

That I can live without alcohol.
Been 3 weeks since I've been on the beers and I feel so much better for it (notwithstanding the 9lbs I've lost in weight).
