Olympics to be postponed


Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has asked for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics to be postponed by a year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Abe said he has agreed the delay with International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach following talks earlier on Tuesday.

BBC sports editor Dan Roan says the IOC's Executive Board will approve the delay this afternoon.

Why it has taken countries saying they are not going to go for this decision to be made is just ridiculous.

I have been told today, by someone itk that it is more or less certain that the Olympics will NOT go ahead as planned.

Japan in the middle of a fourth wave, and only about 1% of people have been vaccinated.

All foreign spectators are already banned, as are coaches, team support.
