I look nothing like him!
It's really hard to identify varieties of roses as there's thousands of them. However, a very popular red hybrid-tea is "Alec's Red". My money is on this.

We have lots of Lavender which is getting a little unruly. Should I be cutting it back or wait until autumn?

Burn it to the ground then concrete over the whole area.

I'd give it a hair cut now, then another, lighter going over at the end of September. Cutting into old wood, it sometimes kills the plant

It turns out they're all mouth and no trousers.
The plant itself is at least twice as thick compared to all the others.
It grows bolt upright.
The petals take a 45 mins to go from seeing colour through the bud to fully open.
But.
It only blooms for about 12 hours, max.

They do indeed have a very short petal life, but you knew that!

So the life cycle of Purple Poppies and me has been thus:-
I'm up at 04:38
Downstairs look at my babies.
See a purpley breaking through.
Before going to work at 05:31 check again.
Purpley now fully formed.
Home at 18:27 no sign of any purplies.
So I was somewhat pleased to see these fellas, this morning.
and now for the customary, close up and wide view:-
Oh and to prove my point the top and bottom pics were taken about 90 minutes apart and the close up has an extra flower in it!!

Stat has one foot in the 21st century. 
Ok so I'm not too sure how I uploaded Chris Bee and am going to have reverse back to find it.

The most curious thing..
I have some chilli plants growing in pots indoors. Recently they have become infested with what appears to be tiny whitefly (no idea how they got there as the pots are upstairs by a window, but they are all over the place). How can I get rid of the pests? Do they need spraying, which hasn't worked in the past and means I have to find somewhere that sells a spray that actually works - the little buggers just reappear more than ever. Do I have to wipe them off somehow (very slimy and might damage the plant). Will they keep coming back whatever I do?
If I put the plants outside will that make a difference?
