Not confirmed anywhere (seems likely though) but sad if true of course. Sucks balls when young people die.

I recall a season where he was just banging it in from every angle and distance, think no other Championship midfielder have scored as many in a season.

I wonder whether this is a case of the journo preparing his obit which has prematurely leaked, as rumours seem to be PW fell down the stairs and is in intensive care.

More bloody awful news. Terrific footballer, with wonderful technique, with whom we've crossed swords a number of times. Condolences to the family

Breaking news on BBC:

Former Cardiff City and Aston Villa midfielder Peter Whittingham is in hospital, South Wales Police have confirmed.

Hopefully not as bad as was first feared

The ex-England Under-21 international suffered the injuries after an "accidental" fall in a pub in Barry.

Why is accidental in speech marks - are they suggesting it wasn't an accident?

Hope he recovers.

Hopefully he can make a full recovery, he was a great footballer and I remember the days when we on NSC were calling for his signature, or lamenting our failure to sign someone "like Peter Wittingham who is quality"...

Original reports on twitter were that he'd been in a bar fight in Barry.

Clearly, a lot of false rumours have done the rounds - doesn't help Michael Chopra saying he was dead.
