From Sussex Police:

Don’t be alarmed by the multi-agency exercise at The Amex in Brighton on Thursday.

We test our skills on a regular basis with the aim of keeping the public safe.

People may notice a spate of activity as emergency crews respond to the mocked-up match day scenario in a part of the stadium. It will involve safeguarding volunteers who are acting as match spectators, and is not an event for public viewing.

Members of East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, West Sussex Fire & Rescue, South East Coast Ambulance Service, Sussex Police, British Transport Police as well as the Environment Agency and Public Health England Air Quality Cell service, staff from the football club (BHAFC) and Network Rail will take part in an exercise, organised by the Sussex Resilience Forum.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer Mark Andrews, vice chair of the Sussex Resilience Forum, said: “Thursday morning’s exercise will allow us to test emergency protocols, learning and use of chemical detection equipment in our response. We appreciate the support of the Albion football club in providing the venue for this exercise, which will lead to a further exercise in relation to the incident involving more partners in a few months.”

The Sussex Resilience Forum ensures its partners are prepared and arrangements are in place to deal with major incidents across the county.

Sounds like a rehearsal for when they discover someone in the ground with a bottle top.

Nah here's a picture of the 'Bottle Top Prohibition Squad':-

Why, oh, why couldn’t they have done this last Saturday?

I guess they’re readying themselves for the next Palace smoke bomb.

More like an emergency drill for all the gases that eminate from the Amex on match day, after an excess of pies.

Volunteers who stay calm and evacuate will be rewarded with a matchday ticket. Volunteers who panic and don't obey instructions will be punished with two matchday tickets and a VHS of the Palace game.

Probably looking for that ‘dirty bomb’ I put down one of the traps last season (Cardiff at home).

I hope they are wearing eye protection - it may make their eyes water.

Sorry to lower the tone of brevity, but genuine respect is due to all those organisations - and particularly those volunteers - who turned out today for this exercise in this f*cking FILTHY weather.

Would be a nice tribute to those turning out today if the exercise could be translated into direct REAL TIME action against wankers that next time decide to inflict acrid smoke on thirty thousand people in an enclosed space.

Else today's exercise is just a show of strength by your Boys' Brigade
