Following the disappointment of Justice League and Batman v Superman, WB veered away from creating a DC movie universe, encouraged by the comparative successes of Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Joker.

Coming up next year is a new version of batman. Originally Ben Affleck was going to write and direct, then Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Dawn of/War for the Planet of the Apes) was brought in as writer/director, Ben Affleck dropped out, and Robert Pattinson was cast as the next Batman. Reeves has promised to focus on the 'world's greatest detective' aspect of the Batman character.

A while back, Reeves released test footage of the new Batman suit:

Be hard for me to take Pattinson seriously after he so pathetically allowed himself to be killed by The Lord Voldemort

Batman is the only superhero that connects to everyone. He is rich, like some, gay, like some, and lives in cave, like most. He believes he is fighting evil when he is really just beating up poor and mentally ill people, something most wont but should identify with. And aside from the pretty taboo bat stuff he is rather dry and dull. Believable.

That said how about like... The Phantom or Donald Duck or some other cool, forgotten superhero. Bat/Spiderman is pretty watered.

That's as maybe. But super powers or not, Batman wouldn't last 5 minutes in a Wuhan food market.

Another reinterpretation. Christ they really don't have any original ideas at all do they.

Personally I think there has been some passable Batman's, but I don't think any have been definitive, (in the same way that Christopher Reeve was the definitive superman)

Looks good. Pattinson is a great choice and I like the retro production design.

Pattinson is just a bit wet lettuce for me. Seemingly hired because his square jaw line poking out the bottom of the mask will work.

I hope he proves me wrong but for my money no one will top the Nolan/Bale combo.

Not watched a Batman movie since the one with Arnie in. Only film I've ever walked out of.

Never been tempted to watch another one since tbh, even though I enjoyed the original movie with Keaton & Devito

Ooh, are we going to be told the back story of Batman again? Great, I've never seen that in a film before.

I'm not surprised if that stinker put you off for life, a truly terrible movie on every single level. But there HAVE been some very decent ones since, top of which is undoubtedly The Dark Knight, with Heath Ledger's astonishing Joker performance. Give that a go.

I agree.

There have been so many dark and and moody superhero/supervillain films that I'd love a proper feel good, full of hope and bright superhero film. Preferably Superman, done properly. Not dark and all angsty. I even prefer the Brandon Routh Superman Returns film over the Henry Cavil ones as they at least tried to capture the spirit and use the PROPER theme music.

But saying that I dare say I'll willingly hand over my £13.50 to go and watch this new thing...
