[News] Is donating 8% of your wealth when you’ve still got $120bn left really that generous?

Well, he didn't HAVE to give anything, but its a significant gesture IMO that sets an example that others can follow.

Its like our own Bruno donating 1% of his salary to the Common Goal charity to aid the poor and underprivileged around the world, along with Juan Mata. Could he afford more ? Undoubtedly. But he didn't have to do it, and hopefully it sets a trend for other people in a position to do so to follow.

is it ungenerous? would you rather it not be donated? im sure some would say it should be taxed, though overlooks most this wealth is in assets that are not taxed.

It’s a generous start.

Anyone that pisses off Trump and stands up to the bully is alright by me.

Is it? I mean when you can still afford to buy a country? A billion is a heck of a lot of money for one person. Why do you need another $119bn still? Unless of course you’ve an outstanding tax bill to pay perhaps? :D

But it’s not is it? Relativity has nothing to do with it when you’re talking hundreds of billions remaining in someone’s personal fortune. I’m fairly confident Jeff could get by comfortably with just a billion.

OK, but its not like he's personally responsible. I don't think he's morally obliged to write off the majority of his fortune to aid the fight against climate change. The fact he's donating 8% is a big gesture, a big statement, and one that I guess he hopes others will follow. No doubt he could put himself down to his "last billion" and still live as he does very well. But why should he be the one ?

The überrich use charitys and foundations to play with tax relief laws. Usually when I say that we should kill the 0,00001%, someone says "oh they do much more than you, look at the money the donate". Well, ****ing look at the harm they make.

You should email him and ask on behalf of NSC and all other BHAFC fans. :D

Yes it's very generous but also done partly for publicity or else could have done it quietly. There's nothing too wrong with that though compared to 99% of the things people do these days for publicity! I bet too there's an element of generosity there else they could have done a lot of other things instead to get the publicitiy.

These threads always bring out the jealousy. Anyone on this thread could give 10% of their net worth to charity and still have more money and live a life that the homeless on the streets could ever dream of. So why haven’t you done it?

How do we square this when HSBC sack 35,000 staff because pre tax profits are down to £10.3 bn?

But can't he only afford the assets because he wasn't properly taxed in the first place?
