I am putting this on here as it probably doesn’t deserve a thread of it’s own, and this is the closest to the theme that I can find.

Maybe TB should try and poach some of the Dortmund recruitment team, they seem to be doing exactly what we are trying to do. They are a much bigger club than us though so it’s unlikely.

Interesting read though

Be interesting to see some real stats over success rates for them. Are they exceptionally good at scouting the future talent or do they buy 9 donkeys for every superstar?

There success rates are pretty fantastic. Especially with a system where one bargain can facilitate huge profit.

Pulisic - In: Free. Out: €64,000,000
Dembele - In: €8,000,000 Out: €105-145,000,000
Aubameyang - In: €13,000,000 Out: €66,000,000
Gundogan - In: €4,000,000 Out: €27,000,000

On four players that is a collective profit of €237,000,000

That's before you even think about who they've got in their current squad; Sancho, Zagadou, Reyna, Brandt and Haaland, all of which are 23 or under. Sancho on his own is expected to rake in another €100,000,000 profit in the summer.

...but have they brought in 50 dross players too that quietly disappear or get sold on for tuppence ha'penny?

The point was that even if they have brought in 50 dross players at €4,000,000 a pop they'd still have made considerable profit. The reality is that they have become regulars in the Champions League due to their good recruitment, established themselves as one of Europe's top clubs and still made a huge profit whilst doing so

They have a good academy that produces and whilst not every transfer may have gone perfectly (Isaak, Bartra, Emre Mor - all of whom are good quality players whom it didn't work out for at BVB) they managed to not lose a huge amount of money by firstly, spending little on their original outlay, and secondly, often making back a lot of the fee by selling on quickly before they stagnate.

In short, there are very few clubs (if any) who have consistently done so well from the transfer market.
