Athletico fans take a bow, virtually nonstop vociferous support for 90+ minutes, not a drum or loudspeaker in sight and very few empty seats at the end in what must be a hellish stadium to get out of at full time with the size of that crowd. Puts the PL to shame..

Don't forget it was an 11pm finish Spanish time, too.

It's depressing how shit our football culture has become compared to other countries.

Most countries in Europe have a better supporter culture than the UK, it's very obvious if you watch a lot of football from a lot of countries.

Hard to really blame the UK fans though since the pretty dead stadiums are more or less a government decision.

Of course Hillsborough, the Bradford City fire etc. were really bad and traumatising events and things had to be done, but I think its safe to say that unnecessary over-regulation (together with ticket prices excluding most people who are not from the emotionally dead upper class) really harmed the supporter culture.

With modern technology Hillsborough etc. could never happen even if you brought back standing terraces (and booze).

But it’s the richest most wealthy league in the world, which trumps everything. Who cares as long as you’ve got more money.

In Spain they generally don't eat dinner until about 10pm. There's a small amusement park near my holiday apartment in Spain that is aimed at under 11 year olds, it shuts at 1am. Spaniards often stay up rather late!

So basically fill the Amex with 30 thousand JCL Spaniards, kick off at 10 pm and its a guaranteed 3 points.
