[Albion] Murray - class is permanent if you give him some time on the pitch

If he gets some game time, he will still score ten goals in half a season. I would love him to have more game time with Maupay playing together

His goalscoring record in this division for us since we came up just can't be ignored

six feet beneath the moon...
Disagree that he would score anywhere near 10 goals these days.

We are absolutely desperate, so we will need him to play a part this season, and he will. If you get the ball to Glen's feet in the 6 yard box, he will score them 9 times out of 10, even now.

Unfortunately in the Premier League, that is not enough. He still has a huge bit to play given our failure to sign a striker, but we can't rely on him - he's just another option, which if used both sparingly and wisely like it was today, will earn us vital points.

You have to bear in mind that we're creating infinitely more chances now than we were last season. Murray gets in the right positions and he can finish. Both those factors are irrelevant of age

I love Glenn and was over the moon to see him start and score..

But even I will concede that you are totally right on this point.

Maupay and Connolly have lost all form, whereas Murray’s had a career of never letting teams down in tucking away goals, it’s in his DNA.

The ability to finish cannot be underestimated, nor can his ability to be in the right place at the right time. If he gets chances he will score. Significantly, the rest of the team believe in him.

I said that pre match. 15 minute cameos as a sub, would give any striker little chance.

Potter’s striking options have run out, he made the wise call.

Agreed. But don't think Muzza will be able to do Sat-Tue/Wed-Sat anymore.

If a team is a bit suspect against the high press, he's also not the fella.

But in general, as much as he can handle, he needs a run.... He will score with service

Rarely played this season and he really looks after himself, I wonder if he could do 80 minutes plus most games.

Also, are there many midweek matches to come? Haven’t checked.

Absolutely agree. Transfer windows are always silly season but I was absolutely flabbergasted at the demonstrable lack of faith from some of our so called "supporters" in Glenn Murray. There were a number of very poor strikers loosely linked to this club whose stats absolutely paled in comparison to Glenn's yet I got the impression that said supporters would have given their left bollock for literally any old no-mark cos buying a NEW striker with absolutely NO PL goalscoring experience always produces better results than having faith with one of your current ones who DOES.

Right? :dunce:

Maupay is first choice for me but when Potter wants to play with 2 up front then Maupay & Murray should be a great partnership

Very sensible post. Really don’t want him starting too many matches but desperation and lack of numbers means he will have to and although he didn’t contribute much overall, he did grab a goal.

Maupay will still offer us a lot more over the 90 minutes though.

It should be clear to Potter that Murray has something we need and the manager now needs to devise a workaround to compensate for his lack of pace.

Class is indeed permanent. Was he lucky to not have his goal ruled out though, must've been a close one!
