Having his contracted terminated by Newcastle from tomorrow so that he is a free agent. Could we sign him as I have always been impressed when he has played against us. Ex Swansea probably pre GP.

There’s a very good reason why Newcastle are terminating his contract tomorrow and not today - the window closes. We could still sign him after, but we wouldn’t be able to register him to play until the next one opens. He’ll likely go to play in America, as their window is outside of the one we work too.

He was a very good footballer a few years ago, I'm sure he'll be picked up but it certainly won't be and shouldn't be by us. We have King Beram Kayal returning to fitness if we want to have additional central midfield options!

Isnt that what happened with Dean Cox when he went to Crawley from Orient so had to play non league. and never made the comeback succesfully

Cox was released after the transfer window closed which meant his registration couldn't be transferred to another league club until the next window opened. Hence the loan move to non league football until he could officially join Crawley.

Newcastle announced earlier today that Ki Sung Yeung has had his contract terminated by mutual consent, as this has happened inside the window he is still free to join another league club after the window has closed. The only restriction to him joining another Premier League side would be that side having space in their 25 man squad otherwise he'd not be able to play in anything other than cup games until the summer.

So the simple answer is No we couldnt even if we wanted to.

As I understand it the basic rule is if the player is a free agent before the end of the current/most recent transfer window they can still join a team after the window has closed. If they become a free agent outside of a transfer window then they have to wait until the next transfer window opens before they can join a side.

So yes we could sign him next week if we wanted to (hopefully we don't) and we had a space in our 25 man Premier League squad to register him.

For example Patrice Evra joined West Ham in February 2018 after the window had closed, as he'd been a free agent at the end of the January transfer window (his contract with Marseille having been terminated in November 2017)

So if he wanted GP- could remove Crofts from the 25 man squad and replace him with Ki Sung Yeung as a spot will not be needed for MacAllister due to his age. Obviously if we signed him tomorrow.

In a word No.

Actually i'm not sure how it would apply to Crofts as he is a player coach however you cannot register a player into the 25 man squad if there is another player contracted to you who you haven't named in the squad but would be eligible for the squad.

So say for example Kayal didn't go out on loan and wasn't listed in the PL Squad and we'd only named a 24 man squad. We couldn't register someone outside of the window as Kayal would be eligible for the squad.

Crofts isn't in the 25 man squad and will not be, however many players we have at the end of this window. :lolol:
