They have obviously run out of things to catalogue so now they are going to insist on the archive of the witterings of a Dullard on Twitter.

Seeing as there's a thread on the British library now might as well just say that the 'treasures' display there is amazing

On the plus side, it does mean the phrase “A small club such as Crystal Palace” is officially part of the national archive.

Although I don't work in the department that does web archiving I do work at the British Library. It does a sweep of all of the UK web domain which means they take periodic snapshots of the websites for future researchers to view. As in this case they seek permission of from some website owners to make the snapshots available on the web to all. In the case of all the rest, the archived site is available to Library readers at the BL site. There are exceptions on access to some sensitive material and material that is the subject to ongoing legal proceedings. It is a large undertaking but is really just an extension of the policy of keeping a copy of each book published. If no-one did this there would be a huge whole in the data available for future researchers when looking at this period. Someone asked about porn and the answer is that the BL has a collection of pornographic material and you can view apply to view it if you have a genuine research need. The printed porn material is kept in a special cage. The electronic porn can only be viewed on certain seats which are not over-looked by others and can be supervised.
