Two shots on target. Awful decision making in the first half. Sitting back a la Hughton in the second. Total inabiilty to play thorugh the press. Not what has been promised up to now. Players, manager or off day?

Villa were shit and that was unforgivable from us.

Love the fact he changed our style of play and it holds promise, but that's now 14 points dropped from a winning position and I have serious doubts he's got the grit required for a relegation battle.

Confidence is huge in this system, and unfortunately we look totally drained of it.

There were so many games earlier in the season where we played well, and didn’t pick up the deserved points. Now we’re a few points from the relegation zone and it seems to have affected us. The second half today was an unfortunate reminder of the second half of last season, and that is a concern.

Should’ve reacted with Bissouma or Gross on for Connolly by the 50th minute.

It was obvious the tide had turned, they’d packed midfield and that Connolly was a spent force.

Instead GP did a Hughton, nothing. Painful to watch, it was obvious they were going to score.

lack of killer instinct?
lack of quality to finish off opponents?
or lack of both?

If Potter is now not demanding that another striker is brought in this window he's failing. The strike force we currently have is not good enough and will see us relegated

We’re not a great team creating chance after chance, only for Connolly and Maupay to waste them.

We’re very slow paced (mind and physical deeds) relegation candidates, who struggle when Mooy and Alzate are tightly marked.

We have the correct answer. It seems that when a club is the lower mix they revert to this kind of tactic. Shows a lack of confidence. Potterball doesn't normally encourage this type of play.

I was concerned when the line-up was announced. 442 handed it to Villa when that defence of theirs was all over the place. Grealish could thrive in that midfield battle and he really is Villa's only truly decent player. Connolly is not the answer at all and it must show we need to move in this window. There are not enough goals in this side and we looked very lightweight against a very poor side.

Failing because the quality of the players we have in a few places aren't upto it.

But is that Potters fault for the coaching or still trying to fit a square peg in a round hole, I don't know.

The squad aren’t good enough, if Mooy has a bad day it can’t cover up for our lumpy midfield. Same when Maupay-Connolly don’t click

Playing every time from the back is wrong. You need to mix it up. We are soooooo slow at the back when it does go forward it’s instead of a keepers clearance being a 50-50 in the opposing half we get one 30 yards from our own goal.

A great summing up.

Huge blunder by Potter in allowing an under-manned and knackered midfield, to gift the second half to Grealish.

WTF didn’t he react? He needs to learn quick imho, matches are invariably won in midfield.

def a case of we lost that game rather than villa saved it. 1st time ever potter went defensive with the first substitution - unheard of till now and way too early in the match to do that - do defensive sub with 10 mins to go if we are leading not at 60 minutes

I don’t buy this or the other comments citing lack of confidence. Three weeks ago we were battering Bournemouth and holding Chelsea. Those are results you should kick on from. The football, formation and ambition today would have been right at home this time last season. After the ressies lost to Sheff Weds and a below par 70 mins at Everton? REALLY?
