It appears they were brought in no more than a week ago. The wild fires have been raging for at least a month. Why weren't they brought in weeks ago? What else is it that the Aussie troops would have been doing that was so important? Surely the military is a resource that should be used immediately in such situations? Same with the floods in the north of England a few weeks back. The military rode in to assist when villages were already flooded. Why weren't they in the front line as soon as the problem was recognised so they could help with the flood prevention measures? The military is a massive and costly resource and
should be used far more frequently to assist with national emergencies.

Sweden
When we had wildfires in Sweden two or three years ago the government said no to help from Russia who were willing to lend out their largest fire fighting planes. Sometimes you wonder if there's some kind of secret, genius plan to let everything burn.. though it's hard to see any real purpose in it.

it may surprise you military arent usually trained for fire fighting or flooding. deployment takes time, some brief training, identifying where and when to be deployed.

They could surely do more to help than the volunteers who are putting their lives at risk.
