[Albion] Poor Match Officials Today

You'd think the ref had only discovered his cards down the side of the halftime couch. No cards in the first half, FIVE in the second half. Really? Did his boss have a word or something? As for that gormless lino on the left looking out from the North, he might as well have not been there, seeing as how he was taking his cue from the ref for the simplest of throw-in decisions. Has VAR destroyed match officials confidence or something? Certainly looked like it today.

Suspended for allowing a ghost goal and then relegated from the select referees list. For a reason. And backed by Mike Riley.

Think that sums today up, really.

Atwell is the worst ref in the league by some distance. It was him who reffed our game Vs Burnley at home last season, you know, the one where he was the one person out of 30,000 to not see the Burnley player punch the ball away in the box. Also reffed our game Vs Arsenal at home in our first season where Schelotto was knocked unconscious with a shoulder charge from a player already on a yellow card and he didn't even award a free kick. He also yellow carded Stephens for a perfectly clean tackle. He's an absolute disgrace to his profession

Atwell was never up with play, he just moved around the centre circle, didn't get wide at all. He missed so much and seemed reluctant to card anyone and then suddenly carded everything. Awful ref.

In a mediocre field, Atwell manages to stand out as being particularly shite. Never happy to see him reffing our games. The more wrong he is, the more certain he is. Deluded ****.

Didn't see many bad errors from the refs, yet players from both teams were very annoyed with them. It's a sign that you both lack authority and communication.

James had (i am being generous here) at least 5 cardable offenses not least the one stretchering off Burn. He finally got booked at the very end of the game. Shocking. He had no control over the game, he told Maupay to stay back for the dropped ball 3 times but got ignored. He told James on 3 occasions to not waste time and take the throw where it went out ignored all 3 times.

Best example was the 2nd half in front of the East.
Ball goes out off an Albion player. Ref looks at lino for help, lino keeps flag down and looks gormlessly at the ref.
Neither has a Scooby, so lino takes a guess, awards it the wrong way to us, Chelsea players remonstrate and ref confirms the decision, throw to us.
They were pathetic all match.

Why should he be booked for the duel against Burn? Was a fair duel, just bad luck.

He didnt play the ball he played the man, even in rugby that would be a sending off piling into a man in the air. Are you agreeing with the referee that he only deserved one yellow card?

Dont forget the clear handball by Zouma that prevented conolly from being in on goal , he completely bottled that one as awarding a free kick wouldve meant hed have to show a red . He was too weak to book James on any of the 5 times he shouldve before he finally did. Chelsea could easily have finished the game with 9 if wed had a ref with some nuts.

This. Ref had an absolute stinker and the lino was worse.

I too was gobsmacked with him in the first half. Did he have a deal with a far eastern gambling ring that no cards would be given in the first half or something? The bloke in front of me shouted "Oi, Ref, did you accidentally leave your cards at home today?" - much to the amusement of all around.

I also wondered if James was a relative the way he ignored his dirty play and timewasting...

That collision with Burn was just one of those unfortunate incidents. Laughable that people think he deserved booking for it. If Dunk did that we’d be praising how brave he was.

Yea sure every time Dunk goes into a challenge the whole crowd lets out an oh shit noise and then the opposition player leaves the pitch. That was a hospital challenge and he knew what he was doing.

Complete bullshit, they are both going for the ball and it's just bad luck.

In general I didn't pay enough attention to James to think about whether or not he should have been sent off but this duel is nothing, barely a free kick.

He completely missed the ball, in fact never got close to it, and endangered his opposing player in the process.
