It looks as though our snail-pace escorted tour of the South Norwood streets, whilst being serenaded from the first-floor windows, will be a little quicker this year. This is despite the added attraction of the Christmas illuminations.
This is because the first of the 'special direct' trains to Brighton out of Dodge City Junction is timed at 10.16 pm, followed by 10.26 pm and 10.46 pm.

Held back after final whistle, then slow-marched by the the Met’s finest out of Dodge........10.46 will probably be the earliest one catchable......

If you are not one of the 15 year olds in Stone Island gear you can normally escape the escort at the other end of the road by the away end and walk to Norwood Junction with no agro.

Me too.... HH to East Croydon and cadging a lift to some Selhurst car park....
Journey Planner informs that there are trains back from that station at 22:33, 22:41, 22:50 and 23:03.....

In sympathy, I will lock myself in the front room, turn off all the lights and open the windows. Then at 10.00pm I will slowly walk to the foot of the stairs and start to climb them, pausing on each step for 3 minutes, before climbing into bed.
