Guy came up to me in the pub and asked me if I'd help with some "subterranean work, nudge, nudge". Don't know if it's legal or not but I reckon if the authorities get to hear about it there'll be fireworks tonight! Boom, boom!

That can't be right, he'd need to know you had a right to work in the UK and would need to see some formal identification / permit first.
