Found a few from the Donny game in the garage (plus a couple of other 'sunnier' pics from a season or two before)
Also found a long range pic of the guy dancing on the East terrace with his knob out after the game. Don't ask me why I took it!

Nice. Hard to tell but I think that's a 50 percent curtain haircuts ratio in the final picture.

I found Nicky Rust on Facebook the other week

I'd cut mine off by then, a fair few of us would struggle to grow some vertical blinds now, let alone full length curtains.

God I miss that place. It was a craphole but it was our craphole!

Who are we playing in the bottom pic?

nothing quite beats standing on the East terrace in the pissing rain 3-1 down with 15 minutes to play . . . . never left early, and trudged, sopping wet to the pub for a few jars to celebrate a 3-3 draw. even with a paltry 6000 there was an atmosphere.

other results did happen. other weather on odd occaisions too.

Being in the North when we scored a winner in front on 30k plus must have come close.

Is it?

That was the game I fell in love with. Now we have a game I'm struggling to stay in love with.

Don't get me wrong the Amex is wonderful but I'd swap it in a heartbeat to go back to those days.

This, 100%

I have nothing but praise for the current situation, but it ain't what it was, and in so many ways, I preferred it, be it Div 1 or battling for survival at the foot of Div 4.

Frankly walking round the corner from 'Ove station and seeing/hearing the north stand made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. The Amex doesn't quite do that. Possibly because I'm 48 not 8 or 18. . . But it just ain't the same.

And I miss 'jump about' and many other terrace based classics.

Heaven. Was there as a kid on the Chicken Run and NS for 33,000 plus gates, sometimes under lights. Will never forget that incredible feeling, the swaying and surging crowds. Can even recall the smell of it .... blokes whiffing of Woodbines, Scotch and beer.

I can honestlY say I'm lucky enough to have experienced both, well damned close to 30k at the Goldstone.

There is no contest, the Amex North stand is shit compared to the Goldstone. Even 20 000 circa '88 ( Bristol Rovers for example) was a hotter more hostile atmosphere

I was in the NS in the Liam Brady era, gates of up to mid 10,000’s for league matches. The NS atmosphere was still quality.

I do see your POV.
My Albion love affair started at the Goldstone, but now the club has evolved after the wilderness years of Gillingham and at Withdean.
I'll always have fond memories of the Goldstone, but the Amex is our future, and the past should never be forgotten :)

Truthfully, who had a look at the pics to see if they could see their faces?!!!

Goldstone under the lights, or on a cloudy Saturday afternoon with a rocking atmosphere, was quality. (mostly!) miss those days obviously, like the other middle-aged and older fans probably do

This is how I feel. The long journey, to an out-of-town stadium, doesn't compare to leaving home at 2, getting to the ground by 2.30pm. Popping down there at lunchtime from Hove Park Upper, seeing a few of the players leaving training .... [emoji24]

Back to the days when you went with your mates, paid at the gate, stood where you wanted, with your mates, supported your local team and had a great time. Happy pre plastic days.

Cigars..fing cigars. The noise of a full East terrace at the Goldstone or when I was following England at the old terraced Wembley. Nothing like it but I much prefer the Amex overall and its actually closer and easier to get to for me. Wembley though I would go back to in a heartbeat.

I always remember being on the train from EP going into Hove and starting to jump about as the tops of the floodlights came into view. Quick pint in the Seagull Tavern, grabbing a programme before lining up to be frisked in my crombie to enter the NS.
Magic moments, never to be forgotten.

Very Late 80's? Early 90's? When you could get a Propper good coat for a tenner!

I do remember getting into the east terrace about '87/88? with a flight jacket on, game vs Leeds, we got concrete, coins and all sorts chucked at,us. . . . I then noticed I had my emergency scooter breakdown tools in my arm pocket . . . A snap on 13mm socket from my dad was far too valuable to waste on a Leeds fan, but had been missed by the frisk dept at the turnstiles.
