T'is that time of year.

Us oldies, who fought in 2 world wars for you, you little ingrates - sorry I digress, are in need of advise for coping in the 21st century..

I think Lil Miss Stat would like a mixing desk for Christmas

Wickity wickity waa waaah.

She's 13.
It'll be for personal use in her bedroom.
She doesn't have any gramophone records, 8 tracks, or cassettes.
Her music is on her mobile telephone and tablet.
I'd like it to be around £100 so more Fisher Price than Fat Boy Slim
Bozza would like it to be on Amazon.
I'm happy with a Chinese knock off as my last 3 purchases of that ilk have been excellent VFM.

I've already had one look on Amazon and instantly felt out of my depth, scurrying back to 'mixing bowl'.

So any help would be greatly appreciated.

Won’t you also need an amp and speakers?

I don't think so, I dunno, I genuinely have no idea.

As and when one of these lazy workshy wastrels wakes up and answers, they could tell me I'll also need to buy a giraffe, I'd believe them.

Could it be a DJ controller that she's after? (For use with a device to mix music as a traditional analogue DJ would a mixer and two turntables?)

To clarify - do you mean "mixing desk" for recording music:

or "mixer" for live DJ playback of recorded music (wikkity-wikkity-scratching between tracks)...?

N.B. both of the above images are Behringer brand products, which are generally cheap and good VFM, if not the final word in quality. I can't give specific recommendations for products.

As per Klaas post, it sounds like you'd want a DJ Controller. Pioneer and Numark both make some good kit.

Something like this might be a good starting point

Thank you.

Finding something that covered all compatibility (I-Pad, Samsung phone) bases was proving tricky as I got deeper in the jargon weeds.

If anyone were able to shave £40-£50 off of that I'd be even more grateful than I already am.

If you are in Brighton then call in at 'The Guitar, Amp & Keyboard Centre' in North Road. Go to the Pro Audio shop (where they sell those boxes with knobs and flashing lights) and they should help you out.
Failing that give them a ring - 01273 665400 and select 'mail order' to speak to someone who knows.

Once again thank you all.

Initially it'll not be a serious thing, very much a child's Christmas present.
But I'd rather future proof 'just in case' as opposed to gimmicks.

That said I can only pay present, rather than professional, money.

Question worth looking in to.
Can it run from streaming or downloads only?
Think the Numark Party Mix needs a PC with the tunes downloaded.
Add Headphones as well plus speakers.
EDIT
Looking further I'd say the Pioneer DDJ-200 https://www.pioneerdj.com/en-gb/product/controller/ddj-200/black/overview/
is your best bet. Spotify premium account needed. Pioneer are the leaders in DJ gear so will last as well.

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
She needs a Stock Aitkin, plus an added Waterman to be on the safe side.
