With the inevitable break up of the Union post Brexit and Scotland rejoining the EU as an independent country, that's gonna be a thorny one isn't it ? (*)

(*) Borders can always be made out something else than thorns.

I thought the same today. Bet it won’t be though. If the EU want Scotland they’ll compromise! Boot on the other foot.

It'd be exactly the same as the non-military anti-smuggling border that the EU are quite rightly trying to implement on the island of Ireland. Why would any responsible trading bloc NOT do that?

It would create a very different issue to the Irish Border.

There would be free movement of people into Scotland. Then people just need to get on a train down to England.

Westminster needs to give another Scottish Independence vote as quickly as possible and just hope the Scottish people vote against it. If they reject it then it will galvanize people to vote to leave because the people won't like being told they can't decide for themselves.

If Boris Johnson doesn't see this he is dafter than I thought.

Scotland would still vote to stay at the moment but if they have another 3 years of having a Referendum witheld that would probably swing it the other way

I used to think that the UK was better together including Scotland and I did not want them to leave when they had their referendum. Now, after the last 3-4 years I am starting to respect their view for wanting independence, Westminster and particularly the Tories, have no love for anything much north in this island.

Let Scotland go and I hope they make a good go of it, I'd even be tempted to emigrate myself with the country in the state it is now, despite Boris's empty promises for spaffing cash he hasn't got.

I used to want Scotland with us as all those jocko labour MPs kept the blue shite at bay. Now things have changed and the SNP rule roost I don't give a toss. It is another country, and one that always supports ABTE in sport. I give them my best wishes. Ta ra.

If the EU is as vindictive and power hungry as Farage, Johnson, Rees- Mogg would have us believe, they would glory in having an independent Scotland back in the fold,if only to thumb their noses at England and it's remaining vassal state,Wales.

Of course, it would depend on the trading agreement the UK had with the EU at the time, or with an independent Scotland, or, **** it.

They can't have a referendum.

They would have to join the Euro by being new members of the EU. That will always lose votes in another independence referendum.

Reckon Spain would do all they can to stop Scotland joining the EU happening as it they have regions such as Catalonia that want to leave Spain and it sets a precedent.

basic problem for Scotish independence is their trade is some ~65% with UK, 15% with the EU. so economic arguements for UK staying in EU apply to Scotland staying in the UK, regardless of brexit outcome. their primary industry oil and gas will be gone in under couple of decades and second industry finance will be drawn to UK or elsewhere (probably good for northern England). the current £13bn deficit is >7% Scottish GDP, half the total UK deficit. if they join EU they'll be expected to sign up to the Euro and adjust their finances to align.

What makes people think the EU would want the Scots back in? The 'Auld Alliance' was always a Scottish dream - the French weren't too keen on it.

The EU will not forget that in 2016 the Scots voted overwhelmingly to Remain.

I also think logistically there is demand for a British Isles mainland base that is still in the EU.

Lastly, smaller nations in the EU have been treated with respect. I see Finland presently holds the Presidency. Scotland would be a good fit, and whilst EU membership and having the Euro as their currency is not independence in the literal sense to be unshackled from Westminster and Pro-Brexit England is psychologically huge.
